Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I saw Movin' Out and I LOVED it. You have to like dance though - the entire story is told through dance (it is like CONTACT if you saw that). It is truly original though - really great.

Going to see Hairspray next month- Can't wait!

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I'm suppose to see Movin Out on Saturday, the 10th. I'd like more reviews from those who saw it, please! I don't think DH knows that there is a lot of dance. Actually, his friend bought tickets because he liked Billy Joel! He didn't know any better, I hope they like it! I'm sure I would!

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

Cira-
I have to say- I drag my DH to EVERY play in the world - and he said this was his fav. (He likes Billy Joel though). I was worried that it would be too out there for him with the dance - but he really loved it.
Make sure you have him/them read the description in the playbill of what happens in each act - makes it easy to follow!

Another vote for Chicago!!! I want to see it again!!! It is my absolute FAVORITE, so far... Didn't really like 42nd St. LOVED Thoroughly Modern Millie! LOVED Beauty and the Beast, the others I've seen are off Broadway now

FH and I like to go to the theater every once in a while! We feel fancy! LOL!

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I'm with OctBride and Karen... the last musical that I saw was Chicago and I absolutely loved it. Bebe Neuwirth was excellent!
The last play I saw was The Dinner Party w/John Ritter and the Fonz. It was pretty good as well.

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I have only seen Urinetown (which was great) and Into the Woods (just okay). I'm a bit biased - My uncle did the lighting for both shows (won a Tony for Into the Woods! )

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I saw Movin Out this past Monday. It was OK, but I am a tough critic when it comes to shows. The lead singer, Michael Cavanagh, was excellent. Wonderful voice, good piano skills and his own style, not just impersenations of Billy Joel.
The dancers were eh. Saw a lot of choppy things but again i am VERY critical. Its a nice quick show and if you like Billy Joel you will probably like the show but it is ALL dance..no acting or singing (besides Michael). Hope that helps!

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I agree hotelcalie - the dance is not as flowing as your typical dance moves - but that is just twyla twarp's style of choreography. Definitely different.

Re: Anyone see any Broadway Plays recently?

I saw the one about a guy who goes to a small town and starts a band... well he takes their $ and promises to start a band but really didnt have any intention on doing so (I wish I could remember the name!!!). 76 trombones lead the big parade.

Edited to say: The Music Man

Anyway, Eric McCormick was the lead... I was in the 3rd row. He was great except I kept thinking he was gay... thanks Will & Grace.
