Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

Our bedroom is painted a dark, dark green. Our bed is natural pine wood sleigh bed. Our sheets are usually rich shades of blue and green. I like to have a dark colors in rooms I sleep in.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

our bedroom is a mix of dark browns and light neutrals...the walls are a sugary linen color - ralph lauren paints....the furniture is very minimalist, dark espresso wood with silver knobs, the bed is a very simple silver/iron design...there are three layers of curtains - the inside/center is sheer linen, the next 2 layers are the same - a heavy curtain - but in different colors, first a light taupe and then on the outer edges a dark chocolate....we keep the linens and pillows in the same color category....it's very tranquil....

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

This is my new favorite pasttime! I already have color palettes picked out for our bedroom and our den. I just need to get some paint chips and order paint! Can't wait!

But, this is a hard question to ask on a chat board Michele, b/c I believe the way people choose to decorate bedrooms is a very intimate, personal choice. The bedroom is your hideaway from the world, where you go to relax and unwind...and therefore, should reflect your personal style and comfort.

I could give some suggestions, especially since we have the same bedding set , but I still don't think we'd lean toward the same taste in color schemes, etc. Personally, I favor neutral, earthtones for wall and carpet colors and even home furnishings. Just my personal taste.

Try looking at Home Portfolio for ideas, or buy a book about colors to help decide how to match up cool and warm colors tones for all different rooms in your home.
Most importantly, don't make rush decisions...the best advice that I have read is to gather up all the different shades of color and fabircs that you want in a room, and lay them all out together to see if you like it before you commit to anything permanent.

Happy decorating!

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

No rush for me. I cannot afford a new bedroom set yet anyway must close on the house first.
But Claud you are right we do have a lot of the same tastes.

I want Vern from Trading Spaces to do my living room and master bedroom, Frank to do my kitchen and Gwen to do my den and guest room. Claud-want to apply?

We decided to do a Polynesian theme. I love it because it's so different from the rest of our rooms and it reminds us of our honeymoon...very romantic.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

I picked out the bedding first and then went from there - my bedding is the Ralph Lauren Geneviere collection. I have mixed it with the Red and tan velvets. I have the matching baloon valences with tan velvet panels -
We bought a bedroom set from Thomsville which I love - it's a sleigh bet and it goes so well with the bedding.
We also chose a Ralph Lauren paint - the one that looks like suede - it took dh 10 hours to paint the room - (and it's not very large) but in the end it was worth it.
I have lots of down pillows and I splurged on a down confortor -
it is the most confortable bed we have both ever slept in - and we say it all the time - we cut back on other things but we said we were going to splurge on our bedroom - especially our mattress - we bought a pillow top -
Before we bought our house - we were sleeping on an old full mattress that was given to us -
we swore after kicking eachother for two years that we were going for pure confort - when we finally moved into our new home.
AND WE DID - it's hard to get out of this bed in the morning - that's the only downside.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

I hate the designers on Trading Spaces. I just think they do things that aren't always practical for certain rooms. I prefer to take decorating advice from HGTV.

Actually Mich, I think we have very different tastes in decor. With exception of the Croscill bedding set, I think we are at opposite ends of the spectrum!

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

I agree the decorators are not practical but I just love how they can look at a room and come up with something totally different from how it started.
I just don't have that knack.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

Our bedroom is large but one corner is our home office, so it's not exactly how I want it. The focal wall behind our bed is painted Opera Red, the other walls are Dijon Gold. Our furniture is my beloved Grandparents maple bedroom set(it's about 45 years old). the wall over our bed has lots of different shaped mirrors in ornate frames. I'm working on a few of our honeymoon snapshots with photoshop, then I'll frame them & add them to our walls. I have several bedding sets, all with some red & gold.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

My bedroom is the only room in my house that is 100% finished. Our decor is based on the colors in a Georgia O'Keefe painting that I love, which I am attaching. (Hopefully it won't be too big! ) It's hanging on the wall oposite the door as you walk into the room. My furniture is a pickled oak pier wall unit headboard, with a matching dresser and armoir, and I have silver and wrought iron accents all around. When we first moved in Pat broke down a wall and built me a huge beautiful closet, which I LOVE. I love the whole room, because it's our first joint finished project.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

well this question struck a nerve with me...

my bedroom is yet another room that we have to redo. (and of course its like #6 on our Major projects TO DO LIST-which is like a year away maybe).. One thing I regret is that when we moved in we didnt do much, since the house was in move-in condition, and we had just paid for wedding, honeymoon, new car that i needed, so we decided to hold off on things that werent urgent. and since my home was/still is.. wallpaper and carpeted throughout (something i DIDNT grow up with and i cant get used to..., we felt bad removing any just yet, because they used good quality stuff and it was brand new at the time...
Well now i HATE my bedroom, because I CANT WAIT to redo it to my liking. It has a floral wallpaper that i hate (and i didnt hate it when i moved in), its WAY too busy, stripes on the bottom half and floral on top (YUCK!!!) the carpeting is a wine color, i also hate that color. My bedroom set (I didnt realize or think of it at the time) is a bit bulky for the size of the room. Its fromThomasville and I love it, but i didnt even think of how bulky it would be...and the closet in the room has old ugly mirror doors that i cant wait to take out.
So i really cant wait to have that tranquil room to my liking, I havent even put up any picture frames or purchased a lamp, because I want it to 'go' with the color theme, feeling theme, i choose.

Stef, I think i'd have similar tastes as you. Im always theone that people say, 'that color is SO DARK'..i like COLOR in rooms, and when I see someone with white or beige, i kinda talk them into adding color, which doesnt always work, hey to each his own likes !
But my living rm for instance is an olive green color, the ceiling is a faint faint green in the same color family, and the couches are a deep olive, chenille.., and there were have an old window (front of the house) where we plan to get a bow window in the spring, so then i will invest in window treatments...

sorry i rambled....this was the wrong question to ask me...if DH was here, he'd be like 'oh no!' cuz im always rambling about redoing our room. and of course he sees nothing wrong with it, LOL.

now the baby comes first, so his room is being worked on, then the kitchen downstairs, then the playroom, then the office, then the bedroom, THEN his gameroom (Which he thinks should be done as TOP priority !! hmmm, see where his priorities lie !)
...aand the list goes on and on.....(gosh it becomes the story of your life once you own a home !)

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

That site Claud posted is GREAT!!!!!! Tons and tons of ideas.

Since I never got my bedroom comforter set for my shower/wedding I have decided that I might change my idea. I found this one the other day on my new favorite site, Pottery Barn.

I am thinking of doing something like this comforter set. Not the whole room set-up, just the comforter. While I love the candle laterns I KNOW those are totally inpractical in a 'real' house. But I might put some type of light above the bed like that.

Re: How did you decide to decorate your bedroom?

Junebride,
Are you sure you aren't sleeping in OUR bedroom!!!! LOL

We have the same RL Geneviere bedding with a down comforter in a burgundy velvet duvet cover from BBB (that never stays closed and the comforter shifts! I hate that! )

From Linens and Things we got a valance and swag almost exactly the same at the bedding - I think its Burlington's Monaco. The walls are Pacifics Pines by Behr paint (medium sage green color) though, we were happy with that brand.

So I try to stick with the Romantic look of the bedding. I love it!

PS- When we first moved in we were sleeping on an air mattress!!!! Well, we woke up one morning on the floor and went right out to get a new mattress!
