Repost: Helping the Needy at Holiday Time
A few years ago when I was in charge of the church youth group I had them adopt a family at Christmas. We collected so much stuff for the family in the way of gifts and food that it filled their living room and the look on their faces was priceless when we dropped it off. I've wanted to do it again, but since I'm not longer the youth group advisor I had no one to do it with me. So Heather (Angl2001) and I were talking about it and I thought I'd put it out there and see if anyone else is interested in doing this with us.What would happen is: I will get in touch with my contact at the Lutheran Family and Community Services and they will find a family in need for me. They send me a list of the family members names, ages and clothing size and what that person would want or need for Christmas. Then I can give those LIW girls who would want to be involved the specifics of one of the family members and they can get the gift, or if you'd like to help with the food aspect, you can get a gift card to a supermarket or donate non-perishable foods.
I always give extra things to the family and especially for the young ones... I can get a family that I can actually bring the gifts and food to directly. That's what I did with the youth group last time.
Any LIW ladies who would like to be involved or contribute please let me know so I can get a better idea of the size family we can take on. Or if you want anymore info FM me! TIA!!!!

That sounds like a great idea!!! I will fm you my info tooDo you know of a shelter or something that will help people get back on their feet and provide them with different house hold items?
We have our old stuff (not in bad shape at all) that was replaced when people bought us kitchen stuff and I don't want to give it to good will or anything where they will sell it, I would rather have it given to families that need it but can't afford it. Like plates, full set of glasses, baking pans, toaster, all that good stuff.
