Want some DIY advice, please!

I am going to be dying my aisle runner this week and am so nervous!!! I purposley bought a 100' (dying half in case it doesn't look good, I'll still have an ivory one) When I unrolled it, turns out 42' is LONG!!! Where will I dry it? Will it take the dye? Will it be the right color? Does any one have any dying advice, the last time I dyed something was a very long time ago and someone else set up the dye. I bought RIT dye, one bottle of purple and a small pkg of Navy blue, in case I need to darken it a bit. Pray that it will work, I have this vision in my head and I really want it to work!!!!!

Re: Want some DIY advice, please!

Okay....big job...but first I would try dying a smaller piece of the runner to see if it takes. If you did get the extra quantity....cut off a foot and dye that. If it takes well then maybe you could find a friend or neighbor with an old fashion clothes line like the rope and pullys. On a dry clear day do this and Hang the runner with clothes pins until dry. Once it dries....you can roll it up until your big day...

GOOD LUCK.!!!

Let us know how you make out.

Re: Want some DIY advice, please!

I recommend dying swatches however I would cut off about 6 inches across, and make several samples with precise measurements of how long you left it in the dye bath and what ratio of different colors you used so you can ultimately recreate it when you find what works.

As for drying... try several chairs in a line and draping it over the backs, or if you are lucky enough just spread it outside on the grass on a sunny day?

Re: Want some DIY advice, please!

Thanks girls for all the advice! It didn't work at all, but I have good news, FH is gonna let me order the purple aisle runner!!!!! I am so excited, I just have to make sure I am OK with spending the money! I have told myself I can keep it and hang it from a decorative rod in the bedroom (like cut it around the monogram) or something like that.

Re: Want some DIY advice, please!

My *wonderful* DOC Eliana (aka enjft) turned me on to affordable colored runners.

Does this purple one work for you???

It's $39.99 for 75 foot length and they come in like 6 different colors (maybe more?).
