Re: Would you have your wedding the day after Thanksgiving?
I really wanted to...FH was really against it though. He felt like everyone eats so much the day before no one would want to party...and everyone gets up early that Friday to go shopping so they will be tired at night. However, if I had a wedding to go to the day after Thanksgiving, I would have to exert some self control and not stuff myself till I am sick and I wouldn't go shopping on Friday! So I still think it is a good day...and most halls are decorated for the holidays after Thanksgiving!

I looked into that date as well. I don't think it's a problem...especially if you have family that comes from OOT for Thanksgiving. And, IMO, it's an added bonus...there is no way you will overstuff yourself on Turkey Day thinking about trying to fit into your gown!

I've been to a wedding on the day after Thanksgiving and I had a blast. It didn't even occur to me to think of it different than any other day, except, I still had two days to my weekend left so it was even better!

Ive decided that there is no day that will please everyone. The people who are most important to you will come regardless of the date. So make it when you want it.

Re: Would you have your wedding the day after Thanksgiving?
We thought about the Saturday after T-giving, and in the end, since most of our guests are from OOT, we decided against it.Our thinking was this: that is the most heavily traveled holiday all year long. Most of my family would have to fly in from Chicago and FH's would be on the road coming down from Upstate. It would be prohibitively expensive for my family to come out, and with all the potential delays and cancellations, etc, it was just too much. We also considered 12/29, but the same sort of considerations came into play with it being 4 days after Christmas
We also decided against the week after b/c of the closeness to T-giving. So we chose 12/8 instead. It's far enough away from Thanksgiving and Christmas and it works for everyone.
Now, if all of your guests are on the Island or in the tri-state area, none of the above would be a concern.
Good luck planning! I'm sure it will turn out great and you'll find the right date.updated for spelling mistakes...I need more coffee!!

I posted on BHB, but I'll paste it here too:

Clearly

I wanted Christmas decorations without being TOO close to Christmas.
We have virtually NO OOT family.
90+% of our family is off that day anyway.
Our ceremony doesn't start until 5pm. (CH at 8pm).
Contrary to what some people think, there is no price cut for the night after a holiday. In fact, my hall was the same price for Friday AND Saturday - we chose Fri so that we can leave for our HM right away on Sat.
I'm so excited - I couldn't imagine choosing another date! Its perfect for us.

I think it is a great idea! I'd love to go to a wedding then. It's the beginning of the holidays and puts everyone in a party mood! Go for it!

Re: Would you have your wedding the day after Thanksgiving?
no matter what day you choose.. there will be SOMEONE that finds a problem with it... so just pick what you want!! I'd love to go to a wedding that day! One of my mom's friend's daughters got married on that day a few yrs ago and it worked fine!

Re: Would you have your wedding the day after Thanksgiving?
hi christine...we thought about it.... and definitely considered it because it's considered an 'off-night' as many people don't want to get married then and the cost per head was a lot less than a typical friday night..... we ended up NOT doing it then for two reasons
1. we were worried about our out of town guests...traveling thanksgivign weekend is a PAIN in the *** and a LOT more expensive for people (air fare, etc.) than it would be at other times in year
2. FH really wanted a date where we could go on our honeymoon right after the wedding. i'm a teacher so that limited us to the summer (which we couldn't afford) or febraury or april break. we went with febraury for the lower prices and the fact that the church could marry us because it was Holy Week the week I was off in April and they won't marry you on a good friday or holy saturday.
look into though... defintiely a way to save some $$$$ and may work out for people that may already be in town for thanksgiving.
