New Diet Pill

Has anyone taken the diet pill called Acomplia or Rimonbant (not sure which one is the generic version) that's available in Europe? It's supposed to be the new 'miracle pill' for losing weight.

Re: New Diet Pill

I don't trust pills. Even ones that work have side effects and you usually gain the weight back.

Re: New Diet Pill

Absent serious health issues (which are controlled with medications other than diet pills), a 'miracle pill' is not necessary to lose weight. Neither is a fad diet.

It's a simple formula: Eat Less + Move More = Lose Weight.

I'm NOT saying it's easy to do (I'm in the midst of the struggle right now) -- but it's the only foolproof and healthy way to lose weight.

Re: New Diet Pill

Not to mention that many, if not most 'miracle diet cures' are not FDA approved, meaning there could be unsafe ingredients in them that could cause serious harm or even death.

Re: New Diet Pill

I lost 18 pounds on weight watchers and feel great. My sister took diet pills for 2 months and needed her gallbladder removed shortly after at the age of 21!

Re: New Diet Pill

I guess I will be the voice for the other side.

While I agree that diet pills are not for everyone in some cases they are necessary and can be used safely. I have not used to European one mentioned but here is the experience I did have.

2 1/2 years ago my doctor put me on Phentermine which is a prescription diet pill. My cholesterol was high and he thought losing the weight might help lower it in addition to the fact that I could diet and exercise and never lose anything. I took 1 pill a day for 3 months and lost 50lbs, but I will say that because of my cholesterol I also made diet changes that became life changes.
I personally had no side effects from the pill but everyone reacts differently. And I do not think anyone should take diet pills without a Doctor to monitor them.

As for keeping the weight off- I did not gain anything back for more than a year and even then what I did gain back was due to a change in my routine that could not be helped which lowered my daily activity rate keeping me from maintaining that weight.

So the moral of the story being that if you speak to a doctor that agrees your health could benefit from a diet pill then there is no reason not to take it. Why develop drugs that can help people and then not use them?
Just know that the pill is only one part of it and you must make permanent life changes in order to maintain the success a with any diet.

Also just a FYI the FDA just approved an over the counter diet pill called Alli that will be available some time in June. It works by blocking fat absorption and requires you to follow a health eating plan with some added activity for best results.
Here is the site
Alli
