Clothing Donation Boxes

Are those clothing donation boxes you see in parking lots legite? i have been putting my clothes in them for years but now i wonder where they are going. i would be more willing to get rid of my clothes if i knew they went somewhere that would really help people!

I think they are legit- I think they are set up by places like goodwill.
