i'm looking to go back to school, finally.

i was wondering, what do i need to do to become an art teacher??

depends on what you have for your undergrad. if you did full art (like me) you're gonna need all your ed. classes, student teaching and observations, plus MAYBE a liberal art or two. go to the nearest boces with your transcript and they'll do an evaluation for you and let you know in 2-3 weeks what classes you'll need (if you go through nys dept of ed it'll take 6-9 months). my friend did this and i was debating it (decided to get my certification through an alternate route) and it took about a year (full time student) to 1.5 years (part time). you can go through dowling (where she went).

once you're certified you can work while you're completing your masters.

Hi Lizbeth! I know you are in NJ which may be beneficial to you. Do some google searching on NJ's state 'Alternative Route' teaching program. It is a nontraditional way of getting into the teaching system, while acquiring some of the required courses you may need. HTH!
