Pocketfolds - DIY???

Ok, so I know for sure that I want pocketfolds for our invites. FH has left that up to me completely. So, I ordered samples from cardsandpockets.com and they seem fine. I would prefer a wider 'pocket' where the inserts go, but they're more expensive elsewhere.

Well, I showed everything to FH and he really liked it all. Then I told him how many pieces we'd have to print and then assemble and I think he was going to hyperventilate! lol So he thinks we should just pay a little more and have them done by someone.

Pippy's Sweet's quoted me at $4.25 each, so $425 for the 100 that I need. I could probably save at least $100 (maybe more!) by doing them on our own.

So I guess my question is - for those of you who have already done them or have done trials for yours - is it really that bad to cut everything and glue all the layers in the exact spot (I am a perfectionist so crooked things would HAVE to be redone)??? Should I save myself the headache and just order them? Is there a place where we could order them for cheaper than Pippy's Sweets???

Lots of questions, but you girls have all the answers! Thanks!

Re: Pocketfolds - DIY???

To tell you the truth, it isn't that hard to make the pocketfold. Just takes patience and time.

Here is the link to mine and everyone thought they were professionally done when family spoke about them.

edit: I am a perfectionist too, so if things came out 'off' I would have to redo it...that is why I didn't let FH help me, cause it needed to be done MY way...

Re: Pocketfolds - DIY???

Oh, and mine cost about 300-350 to make, so 425 isn't that bad to have them all assembled....

Re: Pocketfolds - DIY???

I think everyone who is thinking of doing their own invites should do their own STDs first, ones that need some sort of assembling. My STDs were pretty easy, comparatively: I punched holes in the top for a bow, I stamped 'Save the Date' on one side, and I printed the text on vellum and mounted it on the other side. Simple? Pain in the ***. Trying to cut out the vellum neatly was a pain, trying to figure out the best way to adhere it to the cards was another pain, just realizing that it took a whole day for the stamped ink to dry was a pain.

Before doing the STDs, I was going to DIY my invites. Now I'm going with White Aisle's 'Luxe' invitation, which uses the very same 'butter' pocket cardstock I was going to buy from Paper Source anyway. The invite won't be mounted on another card, but I can live with that. I'm probably still going to DIY them a bit by adding extra ribbon or a bellyband, maybe even do envelope liners if I find a paper I like. They're also printing matching butter envelopes for me, but I'm providing them with the envelopes (they could buy them, but they have to buy them in bulk and it's cheaper for me to buy the amount I need from Paper Source and ship them.) Yeah, it's going to cost another $100 or $120, but my time is worth that. There's saving money, and there's using your time wisely. I don't need the extra stress!

This is exactly my FH's point and I do see how true that is... Hmmm, anyone else do DIY pocketfolds (not the pocketfold itself, but the invite, inserts, printing, and pasting etc.)?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Pocketfolds - DIY???

We are doing own own. Yes when it comes down to it we are only saving around $200 but it is totally worth that savings to us. Yes it's going to take time, but that's why we've already started and will I wish we paid someone to do it when its all said and done, probably, but looking at what we accomplish would be priceless.

Re: Pocketfolds - DIY???

I also DIY'ed our pocketfolds. I saved myself a lot of $$ and the sense of accomplishement once it's all said & done is priceless.

Here are mine.

I will also add that initially I started pricing them and thought the same as you. However, after realizing that a lot of the prices I saw did not include the matting, the seal and other stuff, I realized I saved myself a lot of $$$.

Good luck to you.
