Crocheter/knitters

I'm planning on crocheting lace shawls for my mother and my future MIL by the time of the wedding (which they will not be obligated to wear), and making afghans or pillows for my bridesmaids as gifts.

Although I've been crocheting on and off for a couple of years, I still can't keep the tension right. My squares end up looking like trapezoids and the projects end up looking malformed. I know that machine-perfection probably isn't possible with hand-made items, but man, my projects right now look ridiculous.

Experienced crocheters/knitters, do you have any hints?

Re: Crocheter/knitters

I found a product sold in Michaels called Knify Knitter. They originally have a circular crochet loom set, but now they have a long rectangular set that runs about 8-10 dollars depending on the length you buy. The instructions are simple and the panels come out straight where you don't have to stress about tension in the knitting needles. i had the same tension problem and found this to be a great alternative, plus you can use any type of yarn.

Re: Crocheter/knitters

Hmm, the only thing I could think of is that maybe you're droping a stitch? I'm not a crocheter, I knit, and I know that's what it looks like when I drop a stitch.
