When to start shopping for MOB dresses?

Hi Ladies,

My mother is a procrastinator so I am going this weekend to start shopping for her dress. I am getting married on March 24, 2007. Do you think I am starting to early? Does anyone know who the process works? Do you buy off the rack or get it ordered? Help please!!!

I am in the middle of picking a florist, photgrapher and BM dresses and feel like one more wedding thing to do will make me crack. Any advice?

I am getting married in October and my mom bought her dress in April. But that was only b/c we were out oneday and she saw something she love. My FMIL is looking for a dress now.

Depending on where you go you can either order or by off the rack. MOB dresses don't take as long as bride or BM dresses. This place told my FMIL that if she orders a dress it will take about a week or two get her dress in.

I think you should get the photographer, florist, BM dresses done first. Once those are out of the way I would worry about your MOB dress.

You are my date twin!! We are going on Friday to look for gowns! My MIL is have a heart attack because she wants my mom to pick her color so that she can decide! She said that the store said if they ordered it now, it won't be in until January(still plenty of time IMO)! I guess it depends on how hard it is to find a dress and whether she is ordering it or not! Don't do it when your stressed though! Wait until you have some more things done and you can enjoy it! If your mom likes Nordstrom or Lord & Taylor etc and is willing to buy off the rack, then shopping anytime is appropriate. If she is petite or plus size or wants to get a 'MOB' dress from a bridal store - it's never too early to start looking!

It's definitely not early to start looking! My mom ordered her dress in early January (we were visiting my dress when it came in and found something she loved) and it came in April 1. My FMIL found something right after July 4th and it came in 2 weeks ago.

My mom ordered her dress in mid July for my November wedding. Your mom can go either way...if she finds something off the rack, go for it. But bridal salons often carry a wide array of 'MOB' and 'MOG' dresses so she can try there as well.

My mom ordered hers, FMIL and my grandmother were lucky to find something off the rack.

In my mind...it is never too early to start looking...especially if your mom is as picky as the women in my life!

I think my mom will be going to Nordstrom or Lord & Taylor....of the rack is more her speed - and she'll have it right away.....

That is good a idea, my mother ordered her dress in January or Febuary of this year. Right now it is sitting in her closet, just waiting for her first fitting.

My mom got hers at Totally You in Merrick
and my FMIL got hers at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa

Both my mom and my MIL bought theirs fairly early. And bought them at MAcy's. I think they have the best selection. My mom had to get hers taken in. I think she went back to macys.

We are getting married in Feb and they told us to start looking in October, but we got hers last month!

Thanks everyone. I thinking we will start looking off the rack and see what happens. This might be a nice easy way to get her motivated ;)
