Re: hmr-hotel recc. in sonoma/san fran

We were just in San Fran. We stayed at the Hotel Rex. It was pretty good. The room was very small, but everything was nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a great time on our trip.

Re: hmr-hotel recc. in sonoma/san fran

to be honest my FH booked a surprise trip for my bday last year and he went with some fancy hotel in the heart of the city.....and by the next morning we left..it was dirty....and not in such a nice area of the city......so FH called all around and we got a room at the Holiday Inn express on Fisherman's warf in san fran!!! it was absolutely wonderful!!! we were blown away by the gorgeous rooms and level of service there were were not expecting it from a Holiday inn exprress........the best part is you can walk to alot of the surrounding attractions .....gl and have fun!

Re: hmr-hotel recc. in sonoma/san fran

San Fran isn't a huge city so you aren't too far from the Wharf at the Westin.

I stayed in Napa at the Marriott but, we went to visit Sonoma. I thought Sonoma was a much cuter little town than downtown Napa.

You can't go wrong with a Fairmont or a Westin!!!

It depends what you will be doing in the city. We were in Union Square, which was near the museums and shops and in walking distance from lots of things. The trolleys and most of the buses stop near there, so it was really easy to get around to other parts of the city. Fisherman's Wharf is more tourist-y.

Alcatraz was awesome!
Are you or your FH into ghost and hauntings and stuff? My DH and I are and we went on a walking ghost tour in Pacific Heights that was a lot of fun.

I just booked my boss there. They are staying at Nikko Hotel in San Fran..they are also going to Sonoma.

Madrona Mansion in Sonoma
The Tides Inn-Bodega Bay on the water
Plump Jack Vineyards in Napa

There is one more that I can't remember, but I will let you know tomorrow when I'm back in the office.

It's a great trip.

Re: hmr-hotel recc. in sonoma/san fran

We loved the Fairmont in San Fran (the Tonga Room in the hotel is the kitschiest retro Polynesian bar...it's awesome :) and we also stayed at the Hotel Monaco (included breakfast and a daily wine/hors d'oeuvres reception). Great hotel, but if you walk out the door and a couple of blocks to your left, you're kinda in a sketchy area.
We stayed at the Thistle Dew Inn in Sonoma...had a great experience first time, not so great the second! Ledson Hotel in Sonoma looks nice & Mac Arthur Place looks very nice too. I LOVE Sonoma & definitely prefer it to Napa!!
