Engagement invites help

I am starting to plan for the engagement party and have narrowed it down to possibly a day BBQ or just a party at night. I know once my mother knows, it will be the party. I am not looking for anything formal since it will be held at my parents house. What kind of invites should I get? Do they need to resemble anything of the invites for the wedding? I don't even know what I want for the wedding either and with 670 days left (yes, I do have the countdown on the home page :-)) this is the least of my worries at this time. The e-party is going to be held in late July into August. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks.

If its a casual BBQ, then don't associate it with the wedding at all (unless your wedding is of a similiar formality). You can buy store bought BBQ invites or personalize postcard invites or send out BBQ bibs with the info on it. Be really creative and work with the BBQ theme instead of the wedding one. And if you have 670 days - don't even worry about your wedding invites - your have PLENTY of time!

What I did

I ordered postcard invites from www.cardstore.com You can input the addresses and they stamp, address and send the invites for you. You should have an RSVP 2 weeks before the party, just so you know how much food/drinks to have plus paper goods. They have tons of designs or you can make your own and download it. Very inexpensive too. They do not charge extra to mail them for you, just the price of a stamp.
