Catholic Brides-Unity Candle

Can someone explain to me when in the program the Unity Candle goes and how it works? I was under the impression that the mothers light 2 white candles and then my FH and I light the unity candle. If this is the case, does it happen all at once or at 2 different times during the ceremony? Please help.

I've seen the mothers light the two candles at the beginning of the service and then the bride and groom light the center candle later on. Not sure though.

The way my church does it is that the mothers each light one of the side taper candles after each one is escorted up the aisle at the beginning of the procession. The unity candle is lit by the bride & groom right after the exchange of vows & rings...
