DMV Name Change Question: UPDATED

For those of you who have already changed your name, when you went to the DMV, do they take away your old license? Or do you keep it?

I just realized I am flying next week, and I had planned on going to the DMV tomorrow, I would need my old ID to fly.

I went to the DMV this morning in Manhattan, they did NOT take my old license. She said that it is mine to keep

you keep it, I still use it 'cuz I like the picture better.....and REMEMBER, they MUST take a new pic!!!

What looks beter a nice summer tan photo or a pale, scarf and jacket bundled puffy face? Umm, no question there!!!! Damned DMV!!!!

They took mine and issued me a paper temp. one. They told me they take photos eveytime you make a change to your license, becasue of fraud.

Can't you take your passport?

I just went last week. They gave me back my old license and also gave me a temporary paper one.

that's so weird, everyone is split on this. Maybe you can ask to keep it if they try to take it by explaining that you have to travel....

They took mine and gave me a paper temporary one. I asked the guy at the DMV if I can keep it because it was my old CA license, and the guy said that it's illegal to have two technically valid licenses.

Can you use your passport to travel? If not, you might want to wait to change your name just in case the DMV takes the license.
