Have you ever heard of this???? update!!
So my mother went today to book our block of rooms at a hotel near the catering hall (the hotel also does weddings). I was planning on staying there on the wedding night because the place has a bar and since my wedding will be over at 5pm i figured it would be a good place to hang out with some of my guests after the wedding. Well the contract for the room says that due to their exclusively doing one wedding at a time at their catering facility they respectfully request that any brides not getting married there do not wear their wedding gown at any public areas of the hotel!!! I am so upset!!!!!!!!!
I was totally planning on going to the hotel straight from the reception in my gown!!!!!!! I mean i only get to wear it once!!! I was going to hang out in the bar in the dress and not take it off until we go back to the room at the end of the night..... Do you think they can really enforce this???? Will they make me change???Update: I spoke to the hotel manager and she said that i can wear the dress to the bar, they just dont want me to hang out in the lobby with my guests with my dress on...i feel so much better!!!!

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
Well... think about how you would feel if you were the bride getting married there that day... its an understandable rule, actually its nice they think of brides that way.... maybe you could change into a cool 2nd dress, there was a thread going around about that earlier today.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
I never heard of this, but it kinda makes sense. If a hotel is marketing its catering services as 'one wedding at a time,' the bride that books her wedding there expects to not run into any other brides that day. But that doesn't help you ...Did you think about another hotel? If it were me, I'd find a different hotel rather than have to change out of my dress on my wedding day.
Hope this works out for you.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! I really think that you should find another hotel, because that is absolute bullsh!t! I'm sure that there are plenty of hotels that have nice bars.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
that stinks! but i can kinda see where they're coming from./... like somebody else said, they market their catering facility as one wedding at a time, they have to honor that for the bride thats having her reception at the hotel..... it stinks for you, but i think this is a case where you have to put yourself in the other brides shoes......i would maybe look for another hotel if possible, or find a nice dress to change into for the after party....

I know -- but my close relatives really want to stay at this hotel because one of my aunts and uncle got married there---- they will definitely be staying there and i dont want to make people run all over long island to hang out after the wedding--- I have a call in to the hotel manager to see how serious this rule is ---but im really sad

See if they have another wedding booked there, and if they don't, I'm sure they won't mind if you stay in your gown.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
Yes, I think that is a great idea. That bride might have picked that place so that she would be the only bride there. It wouldn't be right if you were there too and she spent all the money on the place.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
OK.. I am a bit confused with this. What can a bride do if she was going directly from her reception to her hotel room?
Does she need to change in the car?
This is so riduculous. That' s the hotel responsibility to separate their 'catering' part from the hotel part.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
I agree with the hotel. I picked a catering hall that only caters to one wedding at a time and I would totally be upset if I weren't the only bride there (selfish I know, but that's why they have hall for us). I would probably try looking to see if there is anything close to that hotel that maybe your other guest wouldn't mind going too. I know how you might feel, but it's only fair to the other bride that will be there. Either way, lots of luck

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
Hmm...this is interesting. If you were only going into the hotel in your dress and straight up to your room, I don't think that should be a problem. But since you are planning on hanging out in the hotel bar in your dress, I can understand the hotel's desire to protect the interests of the bride who is getting married there that day. What if you wore your dress to the hotel, but then went straight up to your room and changed into a special 'after party' dress? Just an idea...
I hope you can find a solution that you're happy with!

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
I saw this in a hotel contract ... among a few other strange policies (at least to me) ... I decided not to get a room block there. I understand why they're doing it, but it's still silly and weird to me. JMO.

Re: Have you ever heard of this????
I am a hotel bride. We were told when we went to check the place out that I have full reign of everything since I'm the house bride. They didn't get as specific that no bride can be seen in their dress but, they did say that no other bride can use the hotel grounds for photo opportunities.I'd ask about the policy in specifics, you might be able to go to the hotel bar and wear your dress, obviously, if you are staying there you have to wear your dress in and out of the hotel to go to your reception but, maybe if you explain you just want to go to the bar after the wedding while still wearing your dress they will be ok with it.
