I found something interesting..
I was looking for my Birth Certificate for our passports and I found my parents contract for their wedding at Thatched Cottage in 1978. The total came to an amazing $1785!!!!!!!!! That was a package deal for 100 guests, invitations, limo, tux, flowers, photography and a 3 peice band!!!! The gratuity came to $35 bucks!!! Amazing isn't it.....?

My parents bought the house I grew up in around 1966 for 24K, now worth about 400K -- my brother owns it now.

Insane, isn't it? I don't know what my parents paid for their wedding but the house I grew up in was purchased in 1969 for $22,000

Re: I found something interesting..
prices were lower, but salaries were probably as well.i am sure if you did a percentage comparing salaries vs. the cost of things back then and now, they would be somewhat equal.

Things were expensive to the people at that time too. 5K for a house is a ton of money when you make $250/month.Welcome New Vendors
