For those brides getting married in a Church??

Are you going to hire additional musicians (string quartet, trumpet, etc.) to play along with an organist or do you think it's not worth the $$. I am paying for the wedding on my own, so I am really trying to be budget conscious. On the other hand, I do think it adds a nice touch. Does anyone think it's worth the money - particulary if it's coming out of your own pocket?? Thanks....

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

We are not having any other musicians other than the organ player. Especially since we are not having a full mass, the ceremony will only take about a half hour... not worth the money for such a shot period of time.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

I think it is a nice extra touch if you can afford it. I personally think all I will be having is an organist. Things are already expensive as they are so I don't think I want to spend the extra money.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

We are having a full mass and paying for our entire wedding on our own. We are having the church organist and singer and that is sufficient enough for us...we are spending extra money on the music for the reception and getting a band and DJ.

We're not having a full mass either (just the ceremony) so it wasn't worth it. The only music we're going to have are the prelude, processional, recessional and postlude...

Yes, we are having a full Catholic Mass and we are having a string trio- cello, violin and flute- My FH says its sounds beautiful and he's the musician in the family so I trust him. His friend from Manhattan College plays the cello and he has a company so he gave us a discount.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

yeah i have to say it's worth it!! i think it will differentiate your ceremony from most church ceremonies in a nice way that guests will remember and compliment!
i am having a mass like my sister (jennandphil) and can't stand (IMO) the sound of the organ. idk why but i just don't like the way songs sound when played on one.
so i am having either strings or maybe a harp and flute play. even just a pianist over the organ would add a nice and unique touch.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

As much as the music would be a nice touch - it's the words and the family there that will make the ceremony/mass the most special and meaningful!

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

We hired a string trio to play as well as the church organist. I only wanted the trio but the Church said I have to pay the organist fee if I use her or not so I'm going to make her work!

The extra expense is worth it to us... I always dreamed of having strings during my ceremony....

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

As far as I know, their isn't an organ at the church. They have people play guitar, cello, and violin. I am not sure how much it is going to cost us for them to play.

We got a trumpet player, which sounded beautiful...especially since I walked into Trumpet Voluntary! It is worth it, IMO.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

I'm not having an organist. I really don't like organ music. I'm having a harpist and the cost is pretty small.

ETA: We're paying for the wedding ourselves too.

Re: For those brides getting married in a Church??

If it's something you want, it's worth it. My best friend wanted a violin and flute...and I happened to know someone, so I got her a great price - and then made it part of my wedding gift to them.

We're having 2 trumpets for when I walk down the aisle...but they're friends of FH...so the only cost is a thank you gift for each...they were invited to the wedding anyway. If we couldn't get friends to do it, we would have hired people...but it's nice that we have people we know doing it - kind of fun and meaninful.

When my FH and I were first dating, I went to a wedding with him where he played the trumpet at a friend's wedding.... hearing trumpet voluntary with 2 live trumpets in the church still give sme the chills - the impact is huge..and not the standard church sound....that's what I like....it's a little more special.
