Newly engaged clueless girl!!!
Hey Everyone...I'm New to the board here!I am from Levittown but I live in Philly, PA now but I still want to get married in Long Island. I am going home for the day on Saturday and I would like to check out some places. My boyfriend and I...ahhh I mean... my Fiance and I are thinking of a June 8th 2007 or September 28th 2007 wedding. At first I didn't really want to have it at a catering hall...but I want to be open to ANYTHING. Joel and I aren't elegant or sophisticated people. We want someplace to somehow reflect how quirky, fun and ridiculous we are. I don't even know where to start. I wish I had more of an idea but I am really clueless. When it comes time to pick the music and dresses...I'll be ready. But picking a venue seems so terrifying.
Any help will be extremely appreciated.
Thanks,
Cynthia
is it okay if I repost this in 2007 Brides??

Re: Newly engaged clueless girl!!!
You will have to figure out how many guests will be invited. It may refine your search since some halls have all a min. and max. number of guests. You can search through the posts here for reviews but you could use the 'tool' in this website.
Go to Planning and select (cathering guide).
Good luck and welcome!!!

First of all -welcome and congratulations!Next, have you thought about having it somwhere like the Riverhead aquarium? I know there are a few girls on here that had receptions there. Thats something different than the ordinary catering hall.

Re: Newly engaged clueless girl!!!
Welcome & Congrats!!!First figure out how many people and your budget. That should narrow your options down somewhat.
There are many places out there that are fun and different, some of the best reviews I've seen were at places out of the ordinary. Do some research this week, and you should have a list ready by Saturday!!

Depending on how many people you have, you could also do it at a restaurant. A lot of great restaurants have private rooms.Keep us posted on what you decide!

really...I picture: Me wearing a pink dress...with my girls wearing a complimentary green...with fun flowers. I see a lot of knitted elements and photography!! I don't want to have floral center pieces..I'm thinking limes...or granny smith apples. And I really I just want to dance and have a good time. I don't have an idea of what type of location. I just don't want a white gloves type of place.
I love all those ideas...mansion...vineyard. However, we are trying for less than $100 pp. I should be more honest...we are really looking for 70-90 dollars pp.

That sounds great. I've seen lots of great centerpiece ideas with fruit (and for a while I was thinking of using green, so lots of limes, apples, etc.) If I can find any pictures, I'll forward them on to you.
We were looking to have our reception at a less traditional venue, too, but it ended up being quite expensive. Hopefully you'll have more luck than we did.
Good luck and welcome to the boards!

Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to LIW!!!!!
Don't worry, a lot of us were clueless at this stage of planning!!
Check out lessings.com. They have a few catering halls that offer $70-90pp. June and September are during the busy season so prices tend to be a lil higher. Your vision sounds lovely, I hope you find what you're looking for!!!
