Re: Three Village Inn/Lessings

I love the Three Village Inn and almost booked at a Lessings location. Whatever improvements they make will just make the TVI an even better location.
Hope it works out.

Re: Three Village Inn/Lessings

Here is the article:

Last October, the Miaritis and Lessing families submitted competing bids to manage the catering business at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead. The contract ultimately went to the Lessings, but Lou Miaritis emerged with something else: the idea to join forces with the Lessings.

Five months later, the two families sealed the deal, adding the Three Village Inn - the country inn in Stony Brook that is managed by the Miaritis family - to the roster of 18 Long Island catering facilities and restaurants that the Lessings already operate.

The acquisition, which was announced Tuesday, combines two of Long Island's most historic inns: the Three Village Inn and Jericho's Maine Maid Inn, which is part of the Lessings' portfolio. Lou Miaritis will run both properties and will serve on the executive board of Lessing's, the parent company.

This deal 'fits our goals,' said Michael Lessing, an executive vice president with the 116-year-old family business. The two inns will share successful strategies and practices, he added. 'Three Village has a whole calendar of events that we'll adopt at the Maine Maid.'

Lessing did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

Lou Miaritis will also be responsible for developing new business opportunities. 'Our plan is to grow the company over the next three to five years through other acquisitions,' he said. He added that Three Village Inn will maintain its current staff, which will receive more generous health insurance and 401(k) plans.

The Three Village Inn played a key role in the revitalization of Stony Brook. In 1940, Ward Melville hosted a dinner for 80 people there to discuss his plan for rebuilding the town's business district following the lean years of the Depression. Melville, the founder of the Thom McAn shoe chain, had inherited the building from his mother, Jennie, in 1939. He renovated it and changed the name to the Three Village Inn.

The inn is now owned by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization through its subsidiary Eagle Realty Holdings, which owns most of the buildings in Stony Brook village. Lessing's now becomes the leaseholder.

'The Lessing family came before the board, and the board was pleased,' said Gloria Rocchio, president of the Ward Melville Heritage Organization. 'Their reputation is very good, and they can add another dimension to the village in terms of cross-marketing with their other facilities on the Island.'

Lessing's, which has about $25 million in annual revenue, operates the catering program at such historic properties as the Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport and Huntington's Mansion at Coindre Hall. It also owns the Library Cafe in Farmingdale and the family-named restaurant in Manhasset, among others.

Miaritis said the combination will result in positive changes at Three Village. 'Now we have resources behind us to make improvements to the inn,' he said. 'We'll look to extend the lease we have, and we're creating a plan to make capital improvements to the hotel rooms, restaurant and catering facilities.'
