Mom's wedding dress

I think I might use my mother's wedding dress (she passed away when I was little)...however I want to alter it bc it looks veeeerrrryyy dated. Any suggestions what to do or a good seamstress to go to?

Re: Mom's wedding dress

I lobe that Gown!! What if you make it sleeveless, remove the sheer on the chest and turn it to be A-line?

Re: Mom's wedding dress

I think its REALLY nice. if you get rid of the lace on the v-neck and make it a sleeveless, it will look very pretty and unique

Re: Mom's wedding dress

great ideas...I kinda like the lace over the arms though...how do you think it would look if I just got rid of the sheer part over the chest and turtleneck?

Of course I'll be keeping the fabulous hat!

That is such a beautiful idea

It is a gorgeous dress in itself, but I would defiantly just update it a little bit.

Re: Mom's wedding dress

HEY!

I have a post about this as well -if you need some advice...
I think it has the same subject line and last dated February 22nd.

I am using my mom's wedding gown.
I posted pics...

What I would recommend is something similar to what I did...

I took off alot of the top material and made it into a wide v-neck / off the shoulder's gown... and kept the rest....

Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice!!!!

I first want to give you one of these

And I think its is soo special you are using your mama's wedding dress. I am not so creative so I'm going to agree with what the girls say on here.

The only advice or suggestion I will give, is keep all of the fabrics you take off here. You can always use it for something else..Or you never know..by the time you have a daugther...this sort of style will be back in and they may want to add. So keep the fabric.

Again....this put a tear in my eye and I don't know you..you are very blessed to be using her dress

Re: Mom's wedding dress

thats such a great idea and so special.. i would either just get rid of the sheer or get rid of the sheer and make it sleeveless up to you.. i also agree with keeping the material they take off cause its all part of the memory and you never know when you might want it. good luck.. let us see pics when your done!

Re: Mom's wedding dress

That is so nice of you. I would just make it strapless and remove the sheer part on the chest. I know of a good seamstress in Bethpage.

Re: Mom's wedding dress

You will look as beautiful in this dress as your mother did on her wedding day. I agree if you update the dress to fit your style that you should keep all the material and have it with you always. Your mother would be very proud and honored that you would wear her gown. Good Luck with it.
