Guys I have a question..

Sorry to crash your boards....

I did not get my FH an engagement gift. Is that really mean? He gives me a few joking digs here and there....Do guys really expect one???

I know he is eyeing a Movado, but we are saving for the wedding and I can think of ten other ways to spend the money. Should I just suck it up and charge it? Or wait till the wedding and give it to him as a wedding gift?

Thanks.

Re: Guys I have a question..

I had no idea there was a thing called an engagement gift. Now I am going to have to talk to my FI about this.

Just kidding, No I don't thing you should get him anything if money is tight. And like the post above, just you saying yes should be enough for him. For me, it was better then any gift my FI could of gotten me.

Re: Guys I have a question..

Nic bought me an extra nice Christmas gift (a Lap Top). She felt it was the right thing BUT I was actually not expecting it since we were saving. Her response towards the ring was gift enough!

I do love watches and I had my eye on a Movado Eliro (I already have an Esperanza) and a Tag Heurer Carrera. I felt both purchases (both watches are around $1,300) would have been foolish and she was ready to buy it as an engagement gift. I am very happy she got me the computer and get much mroe use out of it then I would have a watch since I have a few already.

Guys don't expect gifts (speaking for myself) BUT it is a very nice gesture. The extra money on my Christmas gift was more then fine for me and more then I expected!

It is really up to you and your current finacial state. If money is tight, like it for us, then just let him know. A $1,000 purchase is not wise when every penny is being counted . If you do decide on buying the watch, there is some wiggle room when negotiating the price as long as you do not go to the Movado store. I find that jewlery stores give better prices on watches then factory stores.

Thanks guys, I know he doesn't expect anything. I just wanted to see if it was the norm to get anything.
