When to give the bridal party their gifts - and keep it a secret!

I got my bridesmaids white gold pendants with diamond accents to wear on the wedding day, and plan on giving them out at the rehearsal dinner. But - pretty much all of them will be travelling for the wedding, so they need to know what earrings, etc. to bring to coordinate.

Should I give them thier necklaces sooner?

Should I tell them I have a pc of jewelry for them to wear and to bring white-silver/diamond jewelry to match?

Or - Should I just tell them I'd like them to wear silver/white and or diamond jewelry the day of the wedding, and then give them the necklaces at the rehearsal dinner?

i'm doing something similar to that.
we're not having a RD, so i asked my girls to wear specific kinds of earrings to go w/ the necklaces i'll be giving them the day of.

We aren't telling our girls anything. We want to keep their gifts a surprise. If they bring something else than they bring it, but we're not giving anything out until the RD
