Holiday Weekend Wedding?

Is it okay to get married on a holiday weekend such as July 4th (Friday)? Most people we know will not be away. Thanks for your input!!

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

I think it's fine. My wedding is going to be Friday, July 4, 2003. Only one family member complained that the traffic will be heavy for them (coming from South Jersey). Everyone else is into it. I've already booked Sans Souci of Sea Cliff. And I heard that someone my mom works with has a son who booked George Washington Manor for the same day. Good Luck!

Holiday Weekend Wedding

You should get married when ever you want to! Some things to consider about holiday weekends - the obvious is Traffic on LI and the possibility of additional costs to your guests who are going to be traveling.

Holiday Weekend Wedding

I think a holiday weekend is fine. I would just make sure to send out the invitations a little earlier than usual. Also, leave plenty of time between the ceremony and the reception for possible traffic problems. It will be great! Good Luck!!

One more thing to consider...............

Not sure...but I think that vendors charge more during holiday weekends.

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

While in the end, what you want matters most, if there is no reason you have to have your wedding on a holiday weekend I would avoid it. Not only because of additional travel cost, but also for the chance you are disrupting plans. Even if most people you know won't be away, they may have annual plans -- sure they can break those plans to come to your wedding, but why make them choose? Of course if there is some reason you want to have it during the holiday weekend (cheaper catering costs/work schedules/etc) then go for it... but if its just a random date choice I wouldn't....

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

I never thought of the possibility of vendors charging more. Can anyone confirm that? The whole idea would be to cut a little cost of a summer wedding. Thanks everyone!!

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

I say have your wedding whenever you want. Since most of your guests don't have travel plans that you are aware of I would send a save the date card as soon as you officially set the date. Have fun planning!

The holiday weekends are very popular..

So you will want to book early if you want these weekends. Many people I know got married on holiday weekends (Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.) If you want a Sunday wedding, this is good because most people have off on Mon.

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

I'm getting married on Wed, July 3rd, I actually picked the date so whenever we have an anniversary it would always be on a holiday so we can go away for a long weekend, etc. No one has given me a problem about disrupting their plans, and if they choose to not attend my wedding that will be fine as well. Plus there are some neat things that we have incorporated into our wedding that will reflect the spirit of the 4th. I haven't run into a problem with vendors. I have actully gotten some pretty good deals. I don't know if that is because it is a Wed. though. As far as the hotels, accomodations on LI are always pricey. As far as the traffic, if you got married on any friday night throughout the year, your guests might have to fight fri night rush hour on LI, which isn't much differnt than the traffic on the fourth. You would just have to get the word around for people to save the date for your wedding! Good Luck!!

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

We had originally wanted our wedding on Columbus Day weekend, but after looking into everything our reception site would have been more money, but more importantly with our wedding being in East Hampton, a lot of our guests will be staying at hotels. That was the main problem since the hotel then had a 3 night minimum. If that is not the case for your wedding, then I think it is a great idea! People then have a few days until they have to go back to work. Good luck! :-)

Holiday Weekend Wedding?

July 4th is a popular weekend to get married. My church was already booked for Thursday July 3 and Saturday July 5, and I went back in early November. Most places I looked at were reasonably priced. Partly because July is in the off season. Also because July 4 falls on a Friday next year, which is cheaper than a Saturday night. Mainly because it's a holiday, and they don't want their hall to sit unused if they don't have to. So they tend to price cheaper for the holiday. In fact, only one hall charged a 'premium' for the holiday. Since at least 5 other places had told us it's cheaper on a holiday, they were off our list immediately. I was planning on sending out Save the Date cards early this July, but I think that pretty much everyone that is going to be invited already knows about it.

We were married on Labor Day Weekend...

Sunday, 9/2/01 at the Port Jefferson Country Club, and it worked out so well for us. Our vendors charged us the standard Sunday rate and our guests loved having the extra travel day. Some suggestions I would make are 1. Secure hotel blocks early 2. Send save the date cards as soon as you book the date and then send your invites a few weeks earlier than you normally would 3. Allow for extra time that day because of holiday traffic - we got married at the reception location so it wasn't a problem We loved having it on the holiday weekend, and now we will always have a 3 day weekend for our anniversary! If I can help in any other way just let me know!

We were married on Labor Day Weekend...

You will love it! Steve and Nicole were so wonderful in helping us plan everything! The food is incredible and you are the ONLY bride which is so important. The main room is so elegant and the view is unbeatable. We had our ceremony (11:30) & cocktail hour (noon - 1:00) on the deck and then our reception from 1-5. We paid $89 per person and that included the 8.25% tax and 18% gratuity. If you'd like to see some of our pictures here's the address: http://photos.yahoo.com/shelby27_0527 Good luck and if you need anything just let me know! Michele

We were married on Labor Day Weekend...

We were married on a Sunday. If you do consider the PJCC, I would seriously suggest having a daytime wedding. We've been to evening weddings there and you really lose the view. Everything else is still wonderful, but that view of the grounds and the LI Sound are priceless! Plus - those beach pictures that our photographers shot were done on the beach adjacent to the PJCC. I'm glad to help if I can. We loved all of our vendors - we spent 18 months researching everything so I'm happy to share. Good luck and please let me know what your thoughts are on the PJCC once you've seen it!
