Any one ever lost a deposit on a hall on here?
OKAY, SO I think I am already addicted
my cousin nancy's dilemma:
Neway, My cousin nancy was supposed to get married this summer...b4 me...and they have postponed it until whenever....
The Hall manager is refusing to refund her money and is being very rude to her. We dont think he is actually trying to rebook, as my stupid cousin had paid him in full and he has all her money anyway.
The thing is I know there is a suffolk county law about cancelling in 6 months...but due to negligence on the part of the hall, they lost the original cancellation paperwork and when she went back to give it again it was a couple weeks past the 6 months date-like 5 months and 2-3weeks. and ofcourse we have no proof they lost the original...just nancy's word against theirs
Has anyone on here ever sucessfully fought with a catering hall for their deposit and won, if so, any advice for my cousin...

Re: Any one ever lost a deposit on a hall on here?
wow, how convenient that they 'lost' the original cancellation paperwork
i would tell her to send them a demand letter, asking for her deposit to be returned. make sure she notes that she gave them notice more than 6 months in advance; therefore, they must give her the deposit back under suffolk county law, or she will take the matter to small claims court.
i'm not sure how successful these kinds of disputes are. there are a few brides on here that have gotten their money back: somethingblu and princessmaris. you may want to try fming them. good luck!

I would call and advise them if they do not cooperate they will file a complaint with the BBB.
