Poll: Favors vs. Donations

Yesterday I noticed a post about Charity Donations and favors at wedding. It appeared as though most people preferred to receive a donation. I thought people would prefer favors.....

So I'm wondering, what do the '06ers prefer at weddings: Favors or Charity Donations.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

I have never been to a wedding that did a donation instead of a favor, but this is what we are doing-in memory of my dad.
I think it is nice to see money being spent on a good cause.

I agree with this. I've been to weddings that had favors that just collected dust, edible ones is ideal, IMO. I like the donation favors as long as it is meaningful to the bride and groom. It's a nice gesture to donate on behalf of your guests.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

The BHB (that was where this post was) said the same thing. Most favors wind up being dust collectors and such. A lot of brides were saying they even throw away the favors or leave them at the wedding (Unless edible of course). Now that I look back on past weddings that I have been to, I guess I do the same thing. I have a few wine stoppers though.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

We did a donation to charity but our guests still received something. We donated money to the Lance Armstrong Foundation and our guests received LiveStrong bracelets to honor those who have battled and are still battling cancer. It was so nice to see so many of our guests wearing the bracelets that night. It shows in so many pictures.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

We are doing a small favor that goes along with the donation.... I have never been to a wedding where they gave a donation, but I have to say I would like it if I did.. I have so many favors I have no use for..

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

This is a tough question, for me it isn't a matter of preference; I'd appreciate either. Normally I would expect a favor (tho I wouldn't be upset if the couple didn't do that) bc that is what's usually done. I think giving donations is a very new idea, I've only heard about it being done in the past few years. I would love to hear that instead of giving favors a couple has instead made a donation. In fact, that would probably make me feel better than getting a traditional favor.

Lol, I remember when I was a kid at my first wedding. I thought it was so cool that at the end everyone got a lil 'gift'. I got one bc I was the FG.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

I haven't been to a wedding yet where a donation was done, but I will be this year.

We did favors only because I come from a spanish family that would be shocked if I didn't have the traditional favor.

That and we couldn't decide on what organization to give a donation to, there were so many and we couldn't agree on one.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

I didn't vote b/c I read the other girls posts, and I feel the same way. I wouldn't care either way. But my question for those doing donations: How much do you donate per guest? The same as you would have spent on a regular favor?

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

Either one is fine with me. I'm giving out favors (both edible and non-edible). If the non-edible ones collect dust, so be it, I'm giving them out anyway......

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

It's not that I prefer one to another. In the world we live in today, full of sickness and tragedy, I think it's so nice when a couple forgoes the typical wedding favor and puts the couple of hundred dollars towards a worthy cause.

That's why we're doing a donation in lieu of a traditional favor.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

We are doing two donations but also giving little boxes filled with dark Dove chocolate & Hershey kisses. Our donations are in memory of my grandfather (Diabetes) & my grandma (Parkinsons)

In my opinion, unless you are giving something edible, most of the favors I have received have collected dust on my dresser & eventually ended up in the garbage!!!

Do you have a pic of how you packaged them? I'd like to do either a cookie (wedding cake) or some sort of candy with our donation card... but am not sure how best to present them...

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

I am in an identical situation to CarlsBride -- my mom passed away and i want to do breast cancer donations instead.

IMO, if you go that route the money goes to a good cause. I can only speak for myself, but I have tossed many of the favors I've received at other weddings. At least a donation cannot be tossed away.

Re: Poll: Favors vs. Donations

I am doing a donation to the hospital in honor of my Mother who was treated for breast cancer there. The donation tag will be attached to a small box with two truffles from
truffle in my wedding colors. The hospital will erect a plaque with my mother's name on the floor of the oncology unit where she was treated.
