Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
My e-party is in June. My aunt said that I should register so people know what to get us. Should I feel funny doing this?If I do it - do I include notices in the invitations OR can it just be word of mouth?
Is this considered tacky?
Any advice would be great!
Thanks
Justine

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
Justine,It's not tacky. If you're having an engagement party, I think you should register. I would have if I had an enagagement party. Just start one to give people ideas, finish when it gets closer to the wedding. you can always add stuff.

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
You should definitely register before your engagement party. That way, people can get you gifts that you actually want. You shouldn't feel funny doing this at all. Most people would rather buy you something you want/need, which is what's great about having a registry. I'd do it by word of mouth. We didn't really have an engagement party, but a lot of people bought us engagement gifts. Most people asked my parents where we were registered.

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
Okay I have another question though ...What do I register for? I dont know where we will be living so it seems like basic stuff would be best. Like towels? lol I really have no idea here.

You can register for china, bakeware, toasting glasses, cake cutter, picture frames, vases, candles, unity candle, really anything you will need as a married couple.
Registries should always be word of mouth.

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
yup! towels, anything and everything... just go to bed bath and beyond and have fun with the scanner
we registered for all kinds of stuff... towels, silverware, chine, everyday plates, glasses, kitchen gadgets like can openers and tongs, a toaster, pots and pans, a popcorn maker, new bedding, a shower curtain- anything and everything that you'll need. there are things that you're gonna need no matter where you live... think about that kind of stuff.... just have fun with it!!

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
Definitely register before...that way guests know what to get you... and DONT put them in the invatations, because technically e-parties dont require a gift...register for what you will need once you have your own house and kitchen... pots, pans, china, iron, crystal, appliances, blender, food processor, gadgets, etc... most of the places give you a list to help you!

I registered for my enagagement party and I got a lot of gifts from the registry. I knew that people didnt have to give gifts, but if they wanted to I knew what I needed best.

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
Register!!!! You can always return things and get a store credit! I think word should get out by mouth, so no to the cards telling people about it.

EXactly!! It's sooo tacky to put registry card in engagement party invites. The only place registry cards belong is the shower invites. My bro didn't register for their e party and received lots of $$$$$, I registered and did recieved 50/50 presents/cash

Register! We have received gifts for our engagement party, birthdays and Christmas. People love having the registry to shop off of.

We registered before, but we did not send anything saying where we were registered. We told people if they asked.

Re: Do I register BEFORE the engagement party?
Absolutely - its not tacky - its helpful - they will automatically look where you register for the gift - its a given that the gifts come from the registry!!!ETA: Oh yeah - as the woman above me said - the only thing thats tacky is including the registry cards in the invites, or saying in the invite where you are registered - they'll find out - they'll ask your parents or you...
