I know it's NWR but my new puppy has a swollen lymph node...?!?!?

Anyone have this with their dog?

The vet said it could be from just a cold......or worse. I am so nervous and worried about him. FH is probably freaking out with him right now.

We got antibiotics for him and he has to return next week to see if it goes down, but I am still worried, I hate waiting for things like this. If it doesn't go down next week he has to have a biopsy of the lymph node....

Anyone have this problem? Please tell me it will be okay.......FH will be heartbroken if there's something really wrong.

Oh, and the vet just called and said he has roundworms, totally normal, but that just adds to it.

Re: I know it's NWR but my new puppy has a swollen lymph node...?!?!?

We had the same EXACT thing happen about 6 months after we got ours. It was so sad and horrible to see but within 24 hours of the antibiotics, we noticed a change. As long as he's eating, he should be fine. This just might be the time to introduce a lot of wet food. It could be anything from a cold to getting bitten by something, but for our dog, everything was fine once he went on meds!

How can you tell if it's getting better? Obviously the vet was able to feel it, but do you feel around and compare one to the other?

For Simba, he wasn't breathing through his mouth so when he started eating more, playing, having more energy, we noticed a difference and plus you can feel it/ see it (at least in our case). I was thinking about it too and now I'm not so sure it only took 24 hours. I think it might've taken a day or two.

Thank you, he doesn't seem to notice it, and is playing and eating VERY well, so I guess he feels okay.....maybe I can feel it and see a difference.

I hate worrying about these things!

My dog had swollen lumph nodes...but he is MUCH older, and was diagnosed with lymphoma.

However.....yours is just a lil baby, and prob. will be just fine after the MEDS, just give lots of TLC...beleive me I know all the worries of a sick doggie!!!More than I would like too.

Good Luck!

Re: I know it's NWR but my new puppy has a swollen lymph node...?!?!?

Did he have any other symptoms? The vet was neither her nor there about what he thought it was and I hate that!!!

My guy seems to be fine otherwise, but you never know. This is the worst feeling...

Re: I know it's NWR but my new puppy has a swollen lymph node...?!?!?

No..he did not have other symptoms, Lymphoma is something that takes them with little warning....

However...please do not be scared, only a VERY SMALL percentage of dogs get lymphoma, and the lymph nodes on dogs can puff up for just about any reason..I know that feeling of sitting and waiting to know whats wrong, so I do not want to panic you. The pooch is so young still, I am sure that he is just under the weather, adjusting to his new life. Just see what the meds do for him first, and go step by step, I bet you can feel the nodes, and tell the difference yourself. Try not to worry...and spoil him rotten!!!
