Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

So I find myself faced with a dilemna - we have an extremely limited budget. We are paying for the wedding, bought a car, are building an apartment and paying for all the work and supplies, and need to buy furniture, rugs, cabinets etc.

Currently we had placed an order for custom made platinum weddings bands since I hadn't found any I liked. The custom made band would be less money then ordering one that I don't like but came from a jewelry store. Well now that we re-evaluated our budget and expenses and I called the jeweler to check on the bands, apparently the order was misplaced - they were supposed to call me back and let me know if they had it but havent yet. I've started thinking about just getting simple sterling silver bands for the wedding and then afterwards when we can afford it upgrade to platinum.

Any opinions?

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

what about getting white gold?

My e-ring is platinum and my w-ring is white gold, the jeweler said that the platinum wasn't worth the extra $

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I'd been thinking about white gold or platinum coated but I'd been advised that over the years the color will fade, yellow will show through, and platinum coating will need to constantly be dipped. So i thought with the maintenance needed for that I should just get an inexpensive ring and replace it in the next year or so.

but thank you i will consider that more!

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I voted platinum, but only if you can really afford it. Good luck. I hope things get better for you.

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

This of course is just my opinion, but being the mush that I am, I have sentimental value with my wedding band because its what we used on the day of our wedding. They were blessed and they just mean so much to me because it was what the whole day was about. With this said, you may not want to replace them after your wedding, so I would go with getting a more affordable metal. Is there any way the jeweler can work out a payment plan with you?

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I don't see any problem with that. Who ever said that your wedding band HAS to be gold or platinum.

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I'm extremely sentimental too so I thought I could just switch it to the other hand and make it a right hand ring but its still not the same. I havent discussed payment plans with the jeweler but thats a very good idea!

Thank you girls!

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

Someone mentioned this on these boards and i totally agree. 'spend the $ on what is going to last longer than the day... your pictures, your rings and your honeymoon.'

If it was me, i'd cut cost in a different area than my ring. I'm old fashioned and i wouldn't want a new wedding ring down the road. I'd always want the ring that my husband put on my finger for the first time to be the one that is there forever. I don't ever plan on upgrading or anything. So if i were you, i'd stick to your original idea for the bands and get what you want. THere are other ways to cut costs. JMO

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

you'll have plenty of occasions to get yourselves upgrades on w-rings.

I say get the plain bands, for now.

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I have the philosophy that the most money should be spent on the things that last PAST the wedding day...like rings.

Maybe this is JMHO, but my TRUE wedding band will be the ring he puts on my finger on the altar. So even if I upgraded later on, I'd still view the silver band as my wedding ring...and the plat as a replacement.

Go for the platinum...you won't regret it!

Re: Repost from 06- Wedding Rings

I know plenty of people who have white gold bands and haven't seen any problems with them at all, I would reconsider the white gold.

Also, maybe look around a little more, you may find something in a store that you like...
