Has anyone heard of a promise being said to a child during the ceremony??

I have a child from a previous relationship and my fiance wants to say a promise to my son. I've never heard of this but lately people are telling me that it can be done.

I have never heard of that, but it sounds really thoughtful of him to do that. Why not, he wants to include your son as part of the marriage ceremony. You guys make a beautiful couple. I am looking into the same cruise in october for HM.

I think that is so sweet and wonderful that your FH wants to do that for your son.

i've seen that on ' the wedding story' before... it was REALLY great! just something simple like ' i promise to love and guide you to grow up to be the best person you can be, and to always be there for you and your mom'
one time, i even saw the kid make a promise,too... it was more like the minister said ' do you promise to be the very best you can be, and do your very best to make this the best family ever?'
very cute idea! you can even give your child a pendednt or peice of jewelry as part of it, too...

I was at a wedding where that was done. FH's brother did it with his new step daughter. Then both parents presented her with a necklace with three stones representing each of them. There was not a dry eye in the place!!!

I have a friend whose fiance is going to give her daughter a ring.

My FH has a son and at the end of our ceremony before the final blessing the priest is going to say a special blessing for all 3 of us. I'm not sure what he is going to say yet though.

I think its a very sweet idea. Even if its not common its a beautiful way to complete your family. When a pagan couple a have a baby, many of them often make a vow to the baby in a ceremony, promising to raise the child with love, trust, freedom, displine, and understanding.

my aunt and uncle got married about six years ago -- both had kids from a previous marriage. The did this and i thought it was beautiful!

My friend and her husband both have a son and they gave them each a ring during the ceremony.

My FI has a daughter and we are going to do the sand ceremony together so instead of 2 colors of sand we are doing three to represent us as a family. I might also buy her a chain with a charm that has three circles entertwined.

A friend of mine has 2 daughters from a previous marriage and his wife also had a daughter. His wife said vows to his two girls and he did the same to her daughter and then they presented them with bracelets. It was really touching.

Yes! My FSIL was married this past June and her husband has a 6 yr old daughter from a previous relationship. They included her in the ceremony. My FSIL also gave her a necklace and read a poem promising to be the best step-mom she could be. We all cried!

A friend of mine did something simular to that to involve her daughter. They did it right before their candle lighting. They had her stand up and ask her if she is commited to being a part of this new family, etc... It was great!

My sister's husband made a promise to my neice when they got married. He told her how he promised to be a good dad to her and to always love and protect her. He then gave her a ring to wear. It was really sweet and emotional. It was the nicest part of the whole ceremony. It made her feel a part of the ceremony.
