Money Bag or Card Box???
So my grandmother made me a money bag which is a very traditional way to collect cards. I am not sure if I should also have some kind of card box as well? Part of me feels like a card box is kind of like asking for gifts. I know that many guests who attend weddings esp in the NY area tend to bring cards to weddings, but for some reason I just feel kind of funny about it. Does anyone else feel this way? What are you planning to do?Also, we are staying in a hotel the night of the wedding. Our DOC suggested we bring a duffel bag to transport the cards in a not so obvious way. Do you think it's safe to bring the cards to the hotel? I am starting to wonder if it's a lot of money to have in a hotel room.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I think you should also have a card box. At my wedding we had soooooooo many cards that if we didn't have one I am sure some would of gotten misplaced. People expect a card box, jmo. We also stayed in a hotel with the money. My husband was very concerned about it. It worked out fine. My mom offered to take it home but we didn't want to part with it. lol

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I'm going to use a money bag. I feel like I have to go around and thank everyone for coming and be given the cards, rather than having them leave cards in a box. I'm sure either way is fine, though and I have seen some great card box ideas on here.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
The only problem with a money bag is who is going to watch it while you & DH are dancing, cutting the cake etc. A card box is a little big for someone to walk away with.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I would definitely say a money bag. My designer designed my money bag from the fabric of gown and it was absolutely nice everyone loved it.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
i like the $$ bag idea. but its a good point that it is easier to walk away with. but i also agree that i box is just like too much 'expecting it' jmo though. im also just having a small wedding so not too many cards prob
but as for bringing it to the hotel, we are!! im not really too worried cause i dont plan on leaving that room

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I just got married 2 weeks ago and used a money bag. DH and I went around to each person and they gave us their card. My guests would not have just dropped a card in the box without personally giving it to either one of us.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I had a card box that was so decorative it looked like part of the wedding decor. I think it's much eadier to do it that way than havig to worry about a bag.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I'm confused. How can people say a card box is too much like you're expecting gifts rather than a money bag. They way I see it, it's more tacky to be walking around with this bag in your hand waiting for the handouts. Or, are you not supposed to walk around with the bag and you're just supposed to leave it somewhere? I need someone to explain the whole money bag thing to me. Although I can see where people might say a card box is just putting it out there that you want people to cough up their cards, I must say that I prefer a cardbox when I attend weddings. It's so much easier as a guest to just drop of the card when you get there and then make your way to the bride and groom when you have the chance. When there isn't a card box, I hate having to carry the card around until I can make my way to the bride or groom. Then, a lot of times, the bride or groom may seem uncomfortable when we hand them over the card so I always like it better when that situation is avoided and we can just slip it into the card box.ALso, the advice that many past brides keep telling me is to 'let people come to you.' Many of them say that they would have missed their whole wedding had they stopped by every table. I think having a cardbox will save time. I know some guests are traditional and like to hand it directly to the bride or groom, but they can still do that. I personally would be too embarrassed to walk around with a bag all night collecting money. Does anyone else feel that way?

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I received the card box as an engagement gift so I guess I might as well use it.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I think I am going to do some kind of card box and the money bag. I might do a decorated bird cage or something. We are planning to attend the cocktail hour, so I iwll use the bag for that and then I will have some kind of box/cage at the reception. The more I think about it, we will probably have a lot of cards cuz we having over 200 ppl so it probably makes sense to have something to hold it all.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
How did you fit all the cards in one bag? Did you have someone hold onto the bag for you while you danced?

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I had a card box which had pics of us on it. I didn't use a money bag b/c I felt that walking around from table to table with a bag looked like I was asking for $. The card box was displayed behind the sweetheart table. Everyone went up to look at the pics. We didn't expect guests to just drop their cards in there. Everyone personally handed us their gifts and we placed the cards in the box.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
Just from reading all the posts I am feeling that everyone thinks the card box is just allowing people to drop a card in. We walked around, guests gave us cards and my husband put them in his coat or I put them in my dress (had a disguised pocket). Then we put all the cards in the box. Me personally, I didn't want something dangling on my wrist the whole night. I think anyway is ok. It's personal preference.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I don't think its any more 'expecting' to have a card box vs. a money bag... either way its just to have a place to put the envs... also I think with either one there, you still have the opportunity to personally give the card to the bride or groom, and then they can drop it in whichever, or the guests themselves can do it at a convenient time. Its definitely just a preference.

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
I am going to go with a box.. I have been to so many weddings and I think the box is nice because you can put it in there or go up to the bride and groom and give it to them.... I'm not going to walk around.. that takes so much time and if people want to see me they will know where to find me... ON THE DANCE FLOOR!!!

Re: Money Bag or Card Box???
We did a box. We loved the making it and didn't want to walk around with a bag, but with that said...you get tons of 'old timers' that still wait for you to come around to give you the card...many don't know or understand what a card box is.I still prefer the box.
