Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
I used to go to curves. I didn't lose any weight just inches. My mom on the other hand lost weight and inches. I think curves is more for people that are not really active and need to get motivated.

What is it exactly? I know it's 30 minutes - but of what?

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
30 mintues going around to different machines that do not use weights but resistance. My friend goes and has been unable to keep it up since it lacks motivation. She has lost no weight. I think they times are the worse, some are closed on Sundays and close at 8 during the week.

You go around 3 times. You're given like 30 seconds on each machine. In btwn cycles you have to check your pulse. After the 3 third round you have to stretch. That's your 30 min workout.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
my sister works at curves, basically all the machines are in a circle and its a 30min. workout and every minute you switch and change machine or to a pad you can do anything on. I tried it for a month, but it wasn't for me, its too routine and no change in the workout. She has seen a lot of women have great results, it takes time though, its slower results than other forms of exercise, but it does work overtime and a lot of the women get exercise buddies from this because of the small workout environment.

I didn't have much success, but that's because the hours were inconvenient for me, so I almost never went. My Mom, on the other hand, lost 35 pounds at Curves. She still belongs.
I have a very dear friend who has her BA in Excercise Science who worked at Curves while putting herself through college. She would tend to disagree with your assessment. It's like everything else, you have to make yourself go.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
I heard that it is great for individuals that do not or have never exersized. It is a great first step. But if you regularly go to NYSC then you may get bored. Good Luck!

Curves Opinions
Christine...dont do Curves...like you said its BS...I went once with my FSIL and I didnt like it...they have a few weights and a few machines...Im used to NYSC...just walk walk walk...you need to do cardio before any type of weight resistance program...also I dont know if your gym has it but hit the sauna 3x a week...it helps to sweat and builds up your heart!

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
I was a member...the 30 min thing was enticing...BUT I had been a person that exercised regularly. It lost its appeal after a while in IMO it does not provide enough cardio. Its a circuit...
Stay at a gym

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
I belong and it's not BS, but it is targeted to a specific group of people. I would say that it is good for people who have never exercised, or who have not exercised in a long time. I lost 35 pounds doing weight watchers and going to curves and while I have gained a small amount since the wedding, I have kept most of it off. It's been good for me, because I hadn't exercised in a long time and it was easier for me to make myself go if I knew it was only for 30 minutes. It is a circuit training program - you go around the circuit for 28 minutes and stretch afterwards. It is a franchise and they are independently owned, so the expertise and knowledge of exercise and nutrition of the staff varies a lot - I think most of the owners go through training with the corporate offices, but there are a lot of part time people who work at them too, who may not be that knowledgable.
If you are already used to exercise, it is probably not worth it for you to join. I have had a good experience, but after being there a few years, I am ready to move on to a bigger gym, with more options and better hours.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
I was not an exerciser and Curves is good for me. Yes, it gets boring at times - but I've built a lot of muscle since joining and I love that it's just women. I go in Manhattan and the hours are fantastic, but I know that my mom went in Nassau and the hours were not so good.I was a member of NYSC for a long time and hardly ever went. It wasn't the atmosphere I was comfortable in. You can always go try Curves out for a week for free and see if it's right for you.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
For me, I didn't find any success with Curves. I really wasn't motivated to go. However, I have heard success stories from other people, it just wasn't for me. You should ask to do a trial membership if possible or at least 1 week trial to see if you like it.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
Yes, I go! I just joined w/ FH's sister, and we only paid for the first month, no initiation fee w/ proof of a mammo or OB/GYN visit w/in the last year. I like it there a lot, I'm in and out w/in 45min, there's no guys, the staff is excellent, and you feel great once you're done. It's a good workout, let me tell you! Plus, if I'm not mistaken, your membership is good at any location.

Re: Does anyone belong to CURVES?
Everyone's saying there's no cardio- there is, but not like an hour on the treadmill. But who wants to do that anyway? Between the machines (which you never have to adjust for yourself) are bouncy boards to keep up your heartrate, which you check I think twice during the 30 mins. I guess the whole idea is that if you go 3 times or more a week, and keep your heartrate up (they tell you what it should be) for the 30min, you'll see results w/ a healthy diet. It's a hard workout if you do it the way they tell you- believe me! I HATE WORKING OUT, so I love that place. I'm in and out before I know it!Welcome New Vendors
