I'm leaving for Mexico in two days and there is a CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE due to hit!

My travel agent just called to tell me that Cancun is due to get hit on Friday by hurricane Wilma. We're going to be just south of Cancun at El Dorado Royale. Of course, because I never thought it would be necessary, I did not buy trip insurance! I don't know if I should still go or not. I am so confused... My agent said he'd call me later in the week to tell me if he thinks I should go or not. I'm going to be glued to the Weather Channel's website until then.

What would you do?

my boss is actually going to Cancun on Saturday! From what I have seen on the National Hurricane Center, they don't expect it to hit Cancun...There will definately be some effects but not full fledged hurricane...I think you need to keep watching the weather & hope it turns very far east

I don't think its supposed to hit Mexico. It looks like it will travel east of Mexico through the Gulf towards Florida.

I hope it doesn't hit Florida either! I have a connection on the way there in Miami!

That is the same as my boss! If it hits Florida & Cancun is ok, they will divert your flight to Atlanta or Dallas

Kissy - is your boss flying American? I am.
I would love to be re-routed through Texas - it's much closer to Mexico than Miami!

(But I saved about $300 by having a connection on the way there, so I shouldn't really complain )

My FH parents are going to Cancun on Monday. i dont think its supposed to hit Mexico. Florida may be in trouble. Keep watching the weather

I would call my travel agent and ask him now what options you have if they cancel all flights. maybe you can be re-booked for a week later.

I think he is...Not 100% sure though...He is flying down with a group of associates...It's guys week away

It's to celebrate our UNniversary. We wanted to celebrate the beginning of our one year countdown. (And to relax before the real stress of planning a wedding begins!)
