MOB/MOG dresses

Just to settle something in my head. How many of the MOBs and MOGs dresses (if you know) that your mothers are wearing had to be ordered, custom made or bought off the rack. If they were ordered or custom made, how long were you told you needed before the dresses came in? Thanks.

Re: MOB/MOG dresses

My mom and FH's mom both got dresses off the rack. My mom got a really nice one from Macy's, for a really good price. My FH's mom actually got hers from sears! She said that she couldn't believe it, she never would have thought of looking there...

I think a lot of the nicer department stores do alterations if necessary...

Re: MOB/MOG dresses

Both my mom & FMIL had to have them ordered. My moms only took a few months maybe 4 tops my FMILs took a little longer. It really depnds on the manufacturer & if the dress is in stock or if it has to be made. My FH's grandmother got hers off a rack at sears--I think she only paid $14.00!

Re: MOB/MOG dresses

FHs grandmother has had a dress that she bought off the rack for a couple of months now. FH's mother has yet to go shopping. I am not going to say anything but come on now, if she has to order she better move fast! My mom ordered her dress over one month ago and it will take 4 months. She shouldnt be surprised when her options are few if she waits much longer.

My mom is plus-size as is FH's mom. That is what concerns me. Having been plus size myself and VERY sensitive to plus-size women, I know how difficult it can be to find a plus size dress that makes me feel comfortable and yet not look dowdy. She is an attractive woman and I'd hate to see her wearing a schmata (yiddish for 'rag') when she doesn't have to. My mom knew she would have a hard time so she did this all in advance with time to spare.

Re: MOB/MOG dresses

Yes they do have great dresses. However, I do not have the type of relationship with my FMIL that I can really talk to her about what she is wearing OR where she should buy her dress. I'd love to offer to go with her, but it wouldn't work. She also has two daughters who should, in theory, drag their mom to help her find something. The motivation isnt there for some reason. I have to go about things in a backwards way. For example I had to tell FMIL about MY mother wanting to wear navy when I asked her not to b/c my BP is. This way, FMIL doesnt feel I am dictating what SHE should wear. If I did, I'd never hear the end of it. We often do things to keep the peace.

Re: MOB/MOG dresses

There is a great dress place in Seaford/Wantagh on Merrick Road. It's called Totally you. It's a lil weird when you first walkin but, you can buy dresses off the rack or order them. They have them by size which is really good and a sales person assist you the entire time.
