Instructions for aisle runner
I bought the fabric from walmart at $1.87 a yard. Make sure you get the fabric that has a finished edge, so you don't have any sewing to do. Then I borrowed an overhead projector from FIL(principal of the local high school) and printed my monogram onto a clear sheet of plastic. I projected the imaged onto the wall that I had the cotton taped to. I just traced the monogram with a pencil. Then I laid it on a table covered with old cotton towels and painted the monogram with acrylic paint.

Re: Instructions for aisle runner
another take (C&P):DIY monogrammed aisle runner
It's not hard to create your own monogrammed aisle runner, and it makes a big splash. If you have a sewing machine, you can buy and hem the fabric for next to nothing. Now you just need some fabric paint in black or your wedding colors, a pencil, an exacto knife and some cardstock. You also need to decide where you want to place the monogram. Some aisle runners feature a monogram at the bottom, where the procession begins; the top, where the couple stands; and in the middle.
Print out your monogram and blow it up to your desired size on a copying machine. (If your aisle fabric is on the sheer side, you can now trace your monogram directly onto the fabric with pencil. Fill in with fabric paint, and you’re done.) Otherwise, tape the enlarged monogram onto the cardstock and cut out the shape with an exacto knife. Trace inside your new template lightly with pencil. Fill in with fabric paint. Follow the same procedure to make your own monogrammed table runners or even chair covers.

Re: Instructions for aisle runner
one more (C&P)ow I made my aisle runner:
1. I bought several yards of Duck Canvas which is doubled when purchased (ex. 3 yards is really 6). Lay the fabric out flat and cut down the middle to form two equal halves. The two halves are sewn together at the ends to form one full length of fabric.
2. Apply Fray Stop to the cut edge to prevent fraying
3. Print out your favorite saying or monogram from your computer.
4. The image can then be enlarged at Kinko's or somewhere similar, and traced onto the fabric. Or, the method I used, was to enlarge the image directly onto the canvas using an opaque projector, and trace the image lightly with a pencil.
5. The image was then filled in with all-purpose craft paint.
Good luck w/it!
p.s. You might use fabric paint. I'd ask what the difference is between acrylic, all-purpose and fabric paint. You don't want the paint to crackle on you, esp if your runner will be exposed to the sun during your ceremony.

Re: Instructions for aisle runner
I hear the word fabric used a lot. Is the runner made of fabric or the regular runner paper?

I think the ones these folks are making (and others I have seen) are made with canvas or duck cloth.

Re: Instructions for aisle runner
Here's ours:Total spent: $5
~Aisle runner rec'd from MIL. Actual aisle runner that is used by limo company. (We lucked out big time.)
~Paint brushes
~Acrylic paints
~Plastic trays
All we did was print the verse with a large font. Then taped it to the floor. The fabric is see through so we traced the font in pencil then painted it. It was very easy...just to patience.....oh...and space! I have pics at home on a disk of DH and I sprawled out on my Aunt's driveway working on it. I'll be sure to post pics of the process when I get a chance. It was a great project for us to work on together. It made such a hit the officiant Father Tom brought it up during the ceremony. It meant a lot to us that he thought it was so important not only what we wrote, but that we took the time together to work on this project.
ETA:
The monogram I drew freehand onto posterboard then outlined it in a dark marker so I could see through the runner and trace it. The font I used was AmazoneBT.
The font for the verse used was Lucida Calligraphy and that was size 300.
ETA: Pics of us working on it.

It looks great! I also wanted to go to my limo company and ask them to give me the aisle runner so that I could personalize it but I wasn't sure. Can't wait for the DIY pictures!

I don't think the limo company will give you the aisle runner to personalize...not sure, but what happened in our situation was my MIL lived in an apt owned by a limo driver who happened to have one in his house after he moved. We LUCKED out big time... We didn't go with limos, but this is the actual aisle runner used by the limo company.
