Inner envelope question- updated with another question on bottom

I know 'etiquette' says to write 'Mr & Mrs. X' on the inner envelope but I want it to be more personal and am writing the first names of the people invited... I know others have done this as well.

My question is for aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc, did you still just put the first names or did you put 'aunt x'?

Re: Inner envelope question

I only used the inner envelope if there were children. In that situation wrote:

John Smith and Jane Smith
Jack, Jill and Joe

There are a million rules about this but in the end I did what I was most comfortable with. I say go with what you want!

I did this too - Just to really close realtives I used aunt X - grandma etc.

I only did this with my family - not Fh's - the invitations are written like they are from my family, so I thought it would be weird

Re: Inner envelope question

I did first names for everyone. I thought it seemed like a more personal way to do it.

My ideas tend to be wrong according to ettiquite though!!

Re: Inner envelope question

I also wanted to make the inner envelopes more personal. For close relatives, I did put 'Aunt XXX & Uncle XXX'.

I pretty much put whatever I call them on the inner envelope rather than their full first name i.e. Liz instead of Elizabeth.

For the people that we aren't that close to (parent's friends) we put Mr. & Mrs. XXX.

Re: Inner envelope question- updated with another question on bottom

FH opted for the formal way... but now my question is... for people who have been dating someone a long time, do you still write 'and guest' or do you write the persons name? I feel like I should include the name but FH and mom think it should be and guest no matter how long they are dating. Opinons?

I put the name if I knew it, or I tried to find it out.

Re: Inner envelope question- updated with another question on bottom

I called people who were invited + guest to find out the spelling of the guest's name - I could not believe it, but every one of them said Oh put 'and guest' and not their name. These people own homes together and or have been dating for 10+ years. I was floored.
