NYC Teachers who have gotten jobs on LI

Ok I am trying desperately to get a job out here...I am currently appointed at a school in Brooklyn....

If I quit my job in Brooklyn does anything happen with my license??? A teacher that I work with thinks I might loose my license if I quit the BOE

But if I am quitting to take something out here what is the issue??

Re: NYC Teachers who have gotten jobs on LI

I've never heard of such a thing. I quit to teach in LI and nothing happened with my license.

Do you have permanent certification? How many years have you worked for the BOE?

If you are nervous and thinking of someday going back to the BOE, you could always ask for a leave.

Re: NYC Teachers who have gotten jobs on LI

if you have your provisional certification you would be fine if you left your current job for a LI teaching job... the only thing is you only have a certain number of years to obtain your permanent certification... so as long as you watch that deadline you should be ok...

Re: NYC Teachers who have gotten jobs on LI

I think, should you ever find yourself needing to work in NYC again, you would have to re-apply for a license if you do not have a perm. city license (this is not the same as NYS cert, as I am sure you know- the city loves to make things difficult!).

If you should find something on LI, you would be better off taking a leave of absense rather than resigning (if the DOE allows it) because again, if you find yourself having to work in NYC again you will have lost your seniority, and even if it is only a year or two you want to hold onto it. Any banked sick days will also be there for you. Unfortunately, you could get something on LI but find yourself excessed after the first year. This recently happened to a friend of mine, who luckily was able to get another job in the suburbs instead of having to come back to the city.

Re: NYC Teachers who have gotten jobs on LI

Do you have tenure? Once you have tenure you always have tenure. I was thinking of leaving the board this year and was told to take a leave of absense. I was also told that you can always come back to the board........a friend of mine resigned but 3 years later was back with the boe................you never know...............
