Wedding readings poems about love or marriage

Hi All, I am looking for a nice reading for my brother to read at our ceremony.

I am not religious, so we would prefer a beautiful poem about love or marriage.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

THANKS LADIES!

Re: Wedding readings poems about love or marriage

We used 'To Be One with Each Other,' by George Eliot. The text is as follows:

What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen
each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the
silent unspoken memories?

George Eliot 1819-80

You could have him read the lyrics to one of your favorite love songs. Maybe one you're thinking of dancing to at the reception!

Re: Wedding readings poems about love or marriage

Not for everyone, but I love Edna St Vincent Millay:

Not in the summer casket cool with pearls
Or rich with red corundum or with blue,
Locked, and key withheld, as other girls
Have given their loves, I give my love to you;
Not in a lovers'-know, not in a ring
Worked in such fashion, and the legend plain —
Semper fidelis, where a secret spring
Kennels a drop of mischief for the brain:
Love in the open hand, no thing but that,
Ungemmed, unhidden, wishing not to hurt,
As one should bring you cowslips in a hat
Swung from the hand, or apples in her skirt,
I bring to you, calling out as children do:
'Look what I have! — And these are all for you.'

I'm using Art of a Good Marriage. (I think that's what it's called)
