I take a huge chunk of money out of every paycheck and directly transfer it to savings account. It hurts but its the only way - we really don't have much saved and we're paying for the wedding by ourselves.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

No clothes shopping or buying anything in regards to my hobbies. That's major, I didn't really have to cut back much, not even pedicures or manicures just yet. I try to bring in lunch more often now too.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

Well we cut some stuff from the wedding -

no STDs
no Videographer
maybe no Limos (up in the air)
no E-party
Rehearsal dinner will be BBQ at our house

Cutting down in my life (which I am SO bad at):

-trying to avoid Starbucks runs
-cutting down on clothing shopping ALOT (haven't eliminated cause these summer sales are so so good)
-try to bring own lunch (I miss lunch ALOT so I save that way too )

the clothing shopping is the hardest. it used to be one of my vices when I was stressed

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

We really haven't bought anything for ourselves since being engaged. And we don't go out as often, tho still the occaisonal fast food when we don't wanna cook. Then I had a jewelry party awhile ago, and the $$ I earned from that I used to buy gifts. Just trying to prioritize what we need from what's nice to have.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

I am saving my entire summer school salary (which is actually quite large). I am also using the money I used to use for personal training to pay for my portion of the wedding as well. I am pretty fit now and can do the workouts he designed for me on my own. I did invite my trainer to the wedding and cannot WAIT to pose with him!!!

it's all about priorities, when I start a job then I'm going to start putting money aside like 500 a month or so.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

Paying for all of wedding so cut backs are:
-No tips on nails therefore manicures on occassions.
-Not going out as often and eating out
-Trying to brown bag it for lunch 2/3days out of wk
-Working a 2nd job!

Saving about $1250 a month, direct depost into acct from both of us.

All extra money goes to wedding at the end of the month. I didn't really cut back on anything, I just think twice before I buy everything.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

paying for our wedding entirely so I will only get a pedicure once a month and I try to do my own manicures. I only get my hair done every 4 to 5 months instead of every 2 to 3 months. Try not to eat lunch out alot the prices for lunch in manhattan are way over priced. Don't really go clothes shopping anymore. FH is a DVD freak so he has cut back on buying DVD's I love Avon and I had cut back on that. We don't really go out that often anymore either.

IT REALLY S*CKS BIG TIME

I take a huge chunk of money out of every paycheck and directly transfer it to savings account. It hurts but its the only way - we really don't have much saved and we're paying for the wedding by ourselves.

I do the same, actually its almost half of what I take home. I had to move home last Sept when my brother sold the house I was renting so that's my sacrifice, I still buy lunch, go out to dinner occasionally w/ fiance or drinks, and get my nails done, but I do go shoppings less frequently now. There is only so much you can do i mean I have to LIVE too this year... not just wait for next.

yup - i agree - that is our savings plan. i just naturally learned to adjust my life to the money that was now available. I too - put 1/2 my paycheck in our wedding fund. i try not to deprive myself of anything - just learn to do things in moderation.

Re: Repost from 05 Board...QOTD? If your paying for part of your own wedding.....

So far it's been pretty easy since I've been studying for the bar exam for the past two months and we haven't been out to dinner, the movies, anywhere actually!

But I'd imagine that we'll be cutting down on going out, shopping, etc. I won't give up my daily iced hazelnut coffee though! I find it easier to just have the money automatically taken out of paychecks so you don't have the opportunity to spend it! Direct deposit is a g-dsend.
