past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

I am desperate for some quick advice!!!

I am going back and forth with having a DOC. For those of you who had one, was it worth it? My fear is that they will be in my way, like a distraction....

Any feedback would be really appreciated...

Thank you sooooo much :)

Re: past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

oh. ok. well, i didn't have one and i didn't feel that i needed one. but i also had a large, very helpful bridal party and family and i was super organized and detailed in my planning. but who knows, if i had a DOC the few little things that went wrong, might not have. for example, she might have pointed out that since my hair stylist arrived late i should be the first one in her chair, instead of third like i planned. or she might have reminded my videographer to interview the groom at church. or then again, she might not have. but either way, i don't think the DOC would be a distraction at all, at least not if she's good, you shouldn't even know she is there. if you can fit it in the budget, i would think it can only help.

If you don't have at least one REALLY HELPFUL bridesmaid/MOH, then you should consider a DOC...

Re: past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

I had a DOC and am VERY happy I did..for awhile I went back and forth on the idea too. I know brides that have assigned responsibilites to family members and said that worked out ok too. But I had alot of details the day and wanted to follow up with one person rather than 10! Besides I didnt want to burden any guests at my wedding with details. I think its a great idea because you can relax more and have someone follow up w/ vendors in the morning and deal with any problems that may go wrong at the hall.

I hired Rosalie and was very happy with her.

Re: past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

i had one and overall am happy that i did --i would have been even more stressed if she was not there. she also helped with a bunch of things prior to the wedding --like bringing the favors to the hall and organizing my seating chart for me (she also sent it to the hall)...she also came with me to my final dress fitting to make sure she knew how to bustle my gown and she also came with me to my final florist appts.

were there some things that she may have missed? yes, there were (ex: ring bearer never got his bot. and i wanted more candles in the ballroom) --but they were really insignificant compared to all she did for us...

Re: past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

I was going to hire one ... Mainly because we are doing the rehearsal morning of, making the day insane. I don't have anyone who can take the programs down stairs and put them out and those sorts of things.

In the end I enlisted the help of someone who is NOT in the bridal party. I paid for her plane ticket. She's been a BM about 7 times so I am sure she knows the drill.

I will give her a list of things I want her to do, or organize (as in tell someone else to do). I will introduce her at the rehearsal so everyone else knows who she is.

The only thing I am not sure about is tips. I think I should give them out, but I worry that I'll be too caught up. I am getting my hair done first, and then will have pictures taken. I won't really be there when the last girl goes. So I don't know who should take care of this.

I thought I needed on but didn't get one and am glad to have not spent the $. The people at our hall were so helpful it would have been a waste of money.

Re: past brides! I need advice from the newlyweds!

Didn't have one and made out just fine. It probably would have been nice, but not necessary and I enjoyed the planning stuff so I'm glad I did it myself.
