inviting priest/officiant to wedding
Do people invite the priest or officiant to your wedding? In my case, he would not know anyone there and we don't know him at all - only have met with him to discuss the ceremony. I think this used to be a popular custom, but do people still do it?

Re: inviting priest/officiant to wedding
We invited the priest. He didn't come to the wedding or the RD.If he had come to the reception, we would have sat him with the more religious relatives.

I am inviting my Pastor but I'm telling him I'm ok with him leaving after the dinner since there will be drinking at my party and he might feel uncomfortable.

Re: inviting priest/officiant to wedding
it depends on your (pre-existing) relationship with your officiant(s).my Rabbi and Cantor are my co-clergy and friends- so I will be inviting them.

Yep, we're inviting him and he's a complete stranger to us. I think most of the times they don't come but its a nice gesture

I'll be inviting our pastor to the wedding as well. He's new to the parish, and I think it would be a nice gesture.

Re: inviting priest/officiant to wedding
We are actually inviting many priests to our wedding....but that is because we are very involved in our church (we run the youth ministry program) and we have known most of these priests for anywhere between 5-15 years

yes, but he's been 'in the family' for many years--- married my mom and dad, aunt and uncle and baptized all three of us kids.

We're inviting ours since he is a friend of FH. Ironically he was in the same fraternity as my FH!
