Does anyone know the law about hall deposits (Nassau County?)

We told our hall we want to postpone for 2007. They're telling us out deposit (well over $5000) can't be applied to the new date until the old date is sold and if the old date isn't sold we lose it. We have 18 mos to the old date. This is ridiculous. This ***** so much.

Re: Does anyone know the law about hall deposits (Nassau County?)

I'll hav to lookat it, but I know someone was saying something about how in Suffolk there's a law where they cna only keep $100 if you give them 6 months. I was wondering if there's something similar in nassau. I think they should go a little easier on us since we're keeping the SAME hall, and since it's 18 months out

that's terrible!! how can they do that to you?? what incentive are they giving you to have your wedding there after you’ve changed the date?! Your current date is SO far away. That’s just crazy.

Definitely go there in person and speak with a manager.

Remind the manager that they have been collecting interest on your $5000 for a while now, and they should be working harder to keep your business.

I think that's EXACTLY the problem. They have my thousands...and no incentive to give it back. I thought they'd be more understanding since it IS 18 mos away, and we are KEEPING the same hall. GRRR..And she said we need a new contract, which probbaly means they're gonna raise prices on me.

I'm really upset and sad. It stinks because we knew we were going to spotpone and we had mentioned it to our BM, but not officially, but we kept making out scheduled payments anyway, because we figured it would be applied to the new date..... I wish we had known

There is Def. no way to go through with your original date??
If not then I think you should call and set up a meeting to speak with a manager.

There's just no way. We totally rearranged our lives and plans based on a late 2007 wedding. I'm going to have to go in person and find out. I just think they should be a little more fair about it. We told them the reason, etc

Re: Does anyone know the law about hall deposits (Nassau County?)

Don't know if this will be helpful, but I actually just called my hall to find out the cancellation policy...

I was told that the only way we could get our money back is if the date is re-booked. In that case, we would get back all of our money (less $1000) if the room was booked for greater than or equal to what our contract stated. If the room was booked for less than what out contract said, we would have to pay the difference!!!

It seems like this re-booking thing is pretty standard. I think you should have some more lee-way, though because you're not switching sites. I would definitely speak with a manager and remind them that you're not cancelling, you're just re-scheduling. If their cancellation policy is the same as my site's, you could essentially cancel the place entirely and take your business elsewhere and still have the same 'penalty' as if you re-scheduled.

I hope this helps!

Re: Does anyone know the law about hall deposits (Nassau County?)

FYI, I cancelled my original hall 1 week before the six month mark. Originally my hal told me when I signed the contract that by NY state law you are allowed up to 6 months before the date to cancel and get your FULL refund. We did just that and received our check last week. I would check on that and look into your contract and the law.
