If you want sit down, I like Fresh Basil... it's on Lex, early 50's I think. There's also a Chipotle on 43rd or 44th off of Lex... one of my personal faves, but maybe a bit out of the way for you.

There are a few places on 3rd ave starting at around 54th - 60th street.

Houston's
PJ Clarkes (AWESOME burgers!!)
California Pizza Kitchen
Patsy's Pizza
and some others.

if youare in teh mood to wait - Serendipity is between 2nd and 3rd on I *think* 60th/

Depends what you are looking for. I work on 50th and Madison. There are lots of salad places, like Au bon Pain or Pret a Manger, as mentioned before there is Houston's. There is a Cosi (sandwiches) in this area. Or, you can go to Rock Center and you have quite a few places there too (50th and 5th)

TAO ($20.05 lunch special weekdays)
Cabana (fantastic Spanish food)

I like Europa Cafe on 53rd b/t Lex and 3rd.

I work on 53rd and 5th, and chains are all over in this area. Cosi (very good) Pret a Manger, Metro cafe are my favorite good inexpensive places to eat lunch. Better Burger is good too.

I LOVE Tao for lunch...they have a prix fixe for $20.05. It's on 58th bet. Mad and Park.

Brasserie 8 1/2 also has a prix fix lunch but it's a little bit more...they're on 57th bet. 5th and 6th.

You can also go down to 2nd Aven and go into any one of the bars and get some burgers or wings or some kind of bar food and a drink!
