Re: HELP W/ CEREMONY MUSIC: Anyone having a harp for the ceremony?

I think I am going to take up the harp, they make really good $$$...WOW!

I don't know what I am going to do. That was something I really wanted, but it seems like so much just to play for us going down the isle and then back up.

Re: HELP W/ CEREMONY MUSIC: Anyone having a harp for the ceremony?

They do sound quite elegant I have to admit. If you can afford it, I'd go for it. The band that we are probably going to choose includes ceremony and cocktail hour music so we aren't going to be needing additional musicians. Id rather have more people (4 more guests approx) than pay $500 for a harpist. It's all what you choose to spend your money on.

Re: HELP W/ CEREMONY MUSIC: Anyone having a harp for the ceremony?

We have a harp for both the ceremony and cocktail hour and I think it was $600 for both. We have our harpist through our band - Steven Scott Orchestras in Manhasset.
ETS: While the harpist is doing her thing she will be accomanied by a pianist and a flautist for both the ceremony and cocktail hour. We have a 6 or 7 piece band - I don't remember - for the reception.

Re: HELP W/ CEREMONY MUSIC: Anyone having a harp for the ceremony?

I would second a suggestions to check out music schools - I think I'm going to do that for a string quartet and I'm sure you can find harpists... there are so many schools to choose from around here (Juilliard, Brooklyn Conservatory, Mannes, Manhattan, etc.). Good luck!

Re: HELP W/ CEREMONY MUSIC: Anyone having a harp for the ceremony?

Hi, we were thinking of going with a Harp for our ceremony, jazz trio for the cocktail hour, and a dance band for the reception.
After pricing harpists first, I found them to be very expensive for 1/2 hour to an hour only. Then I called a few bands to see what they offer. The first few I called didn't even do ceremony or cocktail, and were upwards of $7or$8,000 just for reception.
Then I saw an ad for a Motown, Soul, Funk band called Soul Revival, and they were very helpful. I spoke with Justin who is the Musical Director and keyboard player. He broke it down for me musically, and it will be an amazing day -
for ceremony I will be having acoustic guitar and flute, the cocktail hour will be a nice jazz quartet of piano, sax, bass, and drums. Followed by their 9 piece dance band for our reception. Justin laid everything out perfectly, and they are even throwing in my ceremony free of charge. With everything we are paying under $7000. Go check them out at www.soulrevivalband.com Good luck
