Advice for future brides re: ordering your dresses

Hiya girls,
So yesterday, I get this lovely little letter dated May 13, 2005 from the bridal shoppe down here in Manassas, Virginia. The letter read that as of May 13, 2005, the bridal shoppe will be closing their doors. They said they had tried to contact the girls whose dresses had come in to pick them up but that they still had girls dresses in their store and were sorry but they would have to contact the designer to get their dress. They arranged with boutiques around the area to 'cover' those of us who've already ordered dresses but now I have to find out whether this other place with accept my contract (aka. price) of my dress that I made with the Bridal Shoppe and I know they are also adding additional expenses for shipping and handling even though its a mere 20 minutes down the road.

So my advice is this. I am getting married in December and started looking for dresses in January and with all that is going on, I have no idea now when my dress is actually going in but luckily I have a six month period of leeway. So, make sure to order things early so that you always have a plan B. I never thought the dress shop would close but they have and even said that a lot of dress shops wouldn't even arrange for brides to pick their dresses up elsewhere, they would just close their doors and that would be it. Ugh!

This is the reason why I have chosen to look at long established bridal salons. I have that kind of luck. Even though a small shop may be able to cater to your individual needs, a larger store or company might be less likely to shut down.

Re: Advice for future brides re: ordering your dresses

OMG! Is there anything you can do. Im so sorry. My FSIL just had this happen to her with the bridal shop in Franklin Square. Not only did they close but never told anyone. Her friend just happened to be passing by and saw the gates down and called her. Then a lawyer for the company called and left her a message to call them. The next day her friend went up there and there were lines of girls outside with police waiting to get in and look for their dresses. Well she gets another call from the lawyer that they have her dress and when another friend went to pick it up it was the wrong dress they gave her dress to a girl that lived in Delaware and basically told her too bad everyone said they have the right dress even though FSIL is like an 8 and the dress they gave her was a 16. Eventually thank god for her the Delaware bride realized her dad picked up the wrong gown and contacted FSIL for the switch. This is very scary. I honestly hope it all works out for you.
