Should you wake a sleeping baby with a fever...

to give them Tylenol?

Cassidy has a fever, and I gave her Tylenol before bed. She feels much cooler now, but if in the middle of the night she has a fever, should I wake her to give Tylenol or not???

TIA

I would and I would give Motrin. It lasts longer, 6 hrs. vs. Tylenol every 4 hours.

Re: Should you wake a sleeping baby with a fever...

Depends ont he age and nature of the illness. Once they are over 6 months they will wake if they are uncomfortable, and the meds are primarily for comfort. I piggy back the tylenol with motrin, give motrin, 4 hrs later give tylenol and then at hr 6 give more tylenol, it helps to keep them really comfortable when they are high fevers. My kids run 104.8 fevers and the doc says that it is fine, let it run it's course. Just make sure they can move their neck (to rule out meningitis). Fevers are SCARY but they are a good sign of a healthy child (in general) who is fighting an illness.
