NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
Hello Brides,I will be going on a road trip in less than 2 weeks to interview with a few different school districts for a secondary mathematics position.
My FH and I are looking to start our lives together out of state, so this is our first step.
I have interviews with the following counties/districts:
*Dorchester County, South Carolina (near Summerville and Charleston)
*Broward County, FL
*Palm Beach County, FL
*Miami-Dade County, FL
What I am looking for from you girls is any advice on the following locations? Maybe you have family living there or anything else.
I'm looking for opinions that aren't travel related, but more real life related.
Such as: safe/nice neighboorhoods, good experiences, bad experiences...etc
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS
Jennifer

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
My grandparents live in Sunrise FL, which is part of Ft LAuderdale in Broward COunty. I really like it down there- contrary to popular opinion, there are alot of young people in that area- lots of colleges and etc.FM me if you have specific questions
Also there are alot of affordable areas near there

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
I would say the area near Charleston. I LOVE Charleston. If I were to go to FL I would definately choose the west coast.

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
My FH and I are moving to Fl. after we get married. We are looking into the same areas and as well as Tampa. I would recommend that you look on the Tampa Tribune newspaper website. The paper lists many different things that you had mentioned plus crime rate and housing. Etc..We have subscribed to the paper and receive it weekly and it has been very helpful.
I am in contact with recruiter from one of the school districts and has been very helpful.
Hopefully this helps. FM if you would like to speak more.
Good luck
Erin

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
Most of my family lives in South Florida (Southern Palm Beach County) and if DH would go, I'd move tomorrow!!!I also have friends in Broward.
Both counties are full of young communities and people!
The Sun Sentinel is the local paper for Broward and Palm Beach Counties. You can look at it online.

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
FH and I will be living in Saint Lucie County or Indian River Countyafter our wedding (both are just north of West Palm Beach County). Saint Lucie County is actually the second fastest growing county in the US, and there's a lot of beautiful homes being built there.

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
if it were up to me, I would have to vote for FL. I have a co-worker who's sister just moved from SC to GA becuase she couldn't stand how obscure everything was.Going anywhere from NY is a big transition as it is. She felt like she was in the middle of nowhere.

I LIVE IN TAMPA, FL AND I LOVE IT. LET ME TELL YOU THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU WON'T GET A JOB. THERE ARE SCHOOLS POPPING UP ON EVERY CORNER AND SCHOOLS THAT ARE ALREADY EXSISTING ARE CRYING FOR HELP. I KNOW THAT YOU WOULD MAKE IT VERY WELL IN THE TAMPA BAY AND SURROUNDING AREA. YOU REALLY SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS AREA. IF YOU WOULD LIKE INFO I CAN TRY TO GET SOME. YOU HAVE FMKIM

I live in FL now and love it - and if you want to be a teacher, that's great because I am always hearing about the shortage of teachers down here on the radio. You should have no problem finding a job.

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
PS: there might be some 'rough' schools in the Miami-Dade area... jmo depends on where you are exactly though. That's a huge county.

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
My parents have a house in Deerfield Beach/Ft. Lauderdale area. I LOVE it. My inlaws will be looking for a house down there as well and DH and I can go to Florida more to vacation with both sets of parents. Its beautiful down there. I agree Miami may have some 'rough' areas. I would vote for the Broward County area!

Re: NWR: South Carolina vs. Florida
Thank you so much for all your help. FH and I really loved reading the response!!!! Pleae keep them coming!!!!!!!By the way....FH and I are taking a road trip in a week and a half. We will be stopping over in South Carolina for a few job interviews and a look around, as well as, a few job fairs in Florida.
I will definitely let you know the outcome. As it seems, I should probably come home with a job from one district.

Charleston is beautiful!!!! It has so much history and seems like a great place to raise a family. It's a much slower pace. If I had to choose, I'd pick Charleston hands down.Welcome New Vendors
