Car Insurance Quotes - Queens vs. Long Island

Holy s---... I cannot believe how much I am currently paying in car insurance.

I went on State Farm's website to get some online quotes. Now I currently live in Bayside Queens... and both me and my FW have relatively new cars (I have an 03 TT Convertible... and she has an 05 Jeep Liberty).

For a policy where I currently live in Queens... State Farm wants about $2200 for both cars for six months.

For shyts and grins.... I put in her mom's address in Wading River to get a quote... the premium for the same exact coverage dropped down to $1200!!! A difference of a grand for six months, $200 buks cheaper MONTHLY.

Good god I never knew I was getting raped on insurance living here. Long Island is sort of my second choice to move in the future. I'd rather move more upstate since its an easier commute for me. I put in an address in Peekskill Westchester... and the premium dropped to $995! Even cheaper than way eastern Long Island.

What I save in Insurance will almost pay for my LIRR/MetroNorth monthlies.

Might be time to start looking for a house this year.

Yea....its unfortunate! I work for SF...and territory is a factor in what your premium will be.
The closer you are to the city, the higher the rate goes.

You may be able to fall into the a class that may be a tad cheaper for you, stating that you drive your vehicle under 7500 miles. SF offers that.
That can be on one car only and can save you some money.
Try that!

It's unfortunate, but fully justified. I can hardly count how many times my car was hit in Queens. Most of the time while the da*n thing was parked! Lost 2 driver's side mirrors before I started avoiding a whole street for parking. And had someone completely total my car overnight while I was sleeping. UGh. so glad when we moved to LI

Re: Car Insurance Quotes - Queens vs. Long Island

Queens is crazy! DH and I got a new car in Feb. and we decided to put an alarm on it. The salesman told us that Whitestone and Bayside have super-high rates of car theft because of the proximity to the bridge and chop shops in the Bronx. Also, he said that cars are taken away by boat. I took it with a grain of salt because he was trying to sell us the alarm, but I also used to work with someone who had *2* cars stolen from in front of his home in Bayside.

ETA: My car has also gotten lots of little dings and such too while parked on the street in front of my building.
