Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

Hi 2004 brides. I need your help. On my wedding day last year, I ran into a lot of little situations on my actual wedding day. I never gave much thought to hiring a wedding day coordinator until after the wedding. Since then I have been thinking of going into business for myself as a Wedding Day Coordinator? I have been doing a lot of research but really need some help from past brides. I would appreciate anyone who is willing to answer the following question. Now that your wedding is over, do you wish you would have hired a wedding day coordinator?

Thanks for any responses. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please feel free to send me forum mail if you do not want your answers displayed.

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

I do, but for a reason that is probably not very common.

One of DH's cousins was a bridesmaid. She was horrifying during the entire wedding day.

My limos ended up running late because of her drama, she made people miserable, her and her family took home quite a few of my centerpieces. She acted like an idiot on the dance floor and not all of it could be edited out of my video.

I saw many of the things happening during the wedding, but what could I do about it, with over 100 people watching me?

So, yes, I wish I could have had someone there to kind of 'babysit' her and make her behave when she was bothering me. Nice, huh? She's going to be 35 in 2 weeks.

Well, I guess I should be thankful...at her brother's wedding, she got drunk and threw up outside of his hall (after she ran past the ladies room- for some reason she felt the need to make a very public display)

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

Oh my gosh. How awful for you? I think we all have one of those people in our family. I know I do. Luckily I hadn't spoken to her in quite some time so I didn't invite her to my wedding!!

Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate it!!

Good luck to you and your husband!!

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

Honestly, no I don't. I didn't have one and I don't regret it for several reasons:

1. I'm a control freak and I loved planning my wedding myself down to every last detail. I'm not good with relinquishing control in these kinds of circumstances.

2. I've heard that day of coordinators can actually make things worse sometimes because they mess up the flow of the day, particularly at the reception hall where the Maitre'd and staff have been doing weddings for years... at the very least, a day of coordinator should be very in tune with the flow of things at the hall and should work with them BEFORE the big day.

3. I can find better things to spend my money on

4. It's one day...things WILL happen that are beyond anyone's control...and sometimes those things are what make the day more memorable and personalized... you can't control everything and hiring a coordinator doesn't guarantee you that you will...

But that's me...I'm sure that for many people, coordinators relieve alot of stress and duties that some brides may feel overwhelmed by or they offer peace of mind that may be priceless for some people.

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

Yes and no. They are way too expensive. If I did, I think it would have taken all the fun out of it and I wouldn't feel so proud of what a good job my mother and I did, if I had hired a coordinator.

No - I loved planning every aspect of my wedding, I think if I didn't I would have enjoyed it as much.

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

Yes and no.....did I need one I said yes, my husband and MOH said no, guess what they were right. I became Bridezilla the day before the wedding, but they took over and everything went off with not 1 problem. The HTH nailed everything!!!

Besides I did all of my own planning, my way with no interference from family or friends.

Re: Did you wish you hired a coordinator?

I considered having one and I'm so glad I didn't. My day went smoothly, largely in part that I was anal about planning every detail, staying in close touch with my vendors, and confriming things over and over again. Even if I had hired one, i still would have done everything the same and that money would have been spent on nothing.
