Need Ideas/Opinions on Mom's 50th B-day
My sister's and I are throwing my mom a surprise 50th. Do you think we need to give out favors? I was thinking we could do lotto tickets - I saw birthday ones. There $1 each and each person would get one. I'll design a card similar to the wedding one below but b-day oriented. Do you think that would look cheap as the only favor since they're $1?Also, any ideas on fun or unique placecards? I just did frames for my sister's babyshower.
TIA for your help!

I don't think you need to give out favors. It would be cute if you could get some childhood pictures of your mom and use them as a background to the placecards. I have also seen edible centerpieces (made out of candy, sugered fruit, chocolate, stuff like that) and I think that is such a cute idea for a party!

Before this site, I honestly never received any favors at parties or anything except a wedding... I think people would find it cute that you gave those lotto tickets, definitely not cheap.

I did something that was alot of fun. I made cd's as favors of songs from the year she was born and popular hits from her teen years. All her friends loved it. It wasnt expensive at all. I bought them from ebay. I had the person I bought them from do all the work. I was so happy with the results that I ordered them as my wedding favors. Again , they were amazing.

Re: Need Ideas/Opinions on Mom's 50th B-day
My kids just threw me a 50th surprise party in a Italian resturant in Commack. Close family and friends made my 50th perfect, but I'm sure if my daughter would of thought about the birthday lotto, she would of done them. I think its a great idea. Your guests would really enjoy them I'm sure. She did buy a birthday crown that had pink glitter and shiny stars and on the crown it said 'birthday queen'. The tables had '50' confettis, birthday cakes, etc. Then she had a coloring book all about turning 50 that she had everyone sign. Ofcourse, the traditional 50th balloons tied onto 50th tiny 50th tote bags. I'm a tote bag collector so that added a really nice touch to my personality.
If your interested, I'll have her post a picture of the crown when I see her this weekend. I wore it all night,
Good luck! and turning 50 is a blast! I'mnow a member of AARP.

Thank you, thank you!
You got it. She'll be here late tonight so look for the pictures sometime tomorrow afternoon. This is a good thing, now she'll be able to teach me how to post pictures instead of me always
.BTW: I do know she does A LOT of her party shopping in Party City. She works in Hempstead so maybe you would know where it is.

I think the lotto idea is very cute..not cheap. Particularily if you have a card like that to display it on, it will look very put together.

For my mom's 60th I made candy wrappers and gave out large hershey's to everyone...everyone told me favors were not necessary...but I wanted to do a little something. I like the lotto tickets, but you may find the candy less expensive?

if you do the lotto tickets (which i love! - we did that at our rehearsal dinner!) you can always make up small sticker labels on a computer and put the tickets in forsted envelopes too!
